On 24-26 October, Minister for Trade Ewa Björling will visit Doha, Qatar, where she will take part in the Middle East Summit. She will also meet representatives of the government and institutions, as well as of Qatari and Swedish companies.
Swedish exports to Qatar increased by 122 per cent during the first half of 2011 compared with the previous year. Major infrastructure investments are currently under way in Qatar ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which can present opportunities for Swedish companies.
"I am very pleased to see that bilateral trade with Qatar has increased, which makes Qatar an important trading partner for Sweden in the Middle East," says Dr Björling.
"I would also like to congratulate Qatar on being selected to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be a good opportunity to place Qatar on the global map."
The main purpose of the trip to Qatar is to promote Swedish business interests and trade between Sweden and Qatar, as well as to deepen the dialogue between the countries in the areas of energy and environmental issues, CSR issues and sustainable development.
