• Shabazz Muhammad (right), the nations top-ranked recruit in the Class of 2012, made a visit to USC over the weekend. His father, Ron Holmes, played at USC. He’s also considering Kentucky and recently visited Lexington.
• Kentucky coach John Calipari went to watch ’12 target Willie Cauley in a football game on Friday for Olathe Northwest (Kan.) High School.
• Former Covington Holmes standout Elijah Pittman, who is attending a junior college, has committed to Marshall University.
• IUPUI men’s coach Todd Howard picked up his third commitment in the Class of 2012 when Gary, Ind., Bowman Academy forward Elijah Ray made the call on Saturday. The 6-foot-6 Ray averaged 16 points a game as a junior.
