MINNEAPOLIS -- Maya Moore accepted her WNBA Rookie of the Year award Friday at Target Center, and a couple of hours later was standing at the free throw line. UConn Grad and Current Minnesota Lynx Forward Named Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year; Only Second Athlete in Program’s 35-Year History to Win Top Award Twice
The Collegiate Women Sports Awards today announced that Maya Moore, University of Connecticut basketball star and current forward for the WNBA Minnesota Lynx, has won the Honda-Broderick Cup, designating her as the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. Moore’s history-making win is only the second time in all 35 years of the program that an athlete has won the Honda-Broderick Cup twice (swimmer Tracy Caulkins,1982 and ’84), and she is the first-ever back-to-back winner. The announcement was made in the Low Library Rotunda at Columbia University in New York City.

Thursday March 17 was no ordinary day for Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, as she and her teammates gathered in the Mater Dei high school gym in Santa Ana, Calif. She knew WNBA legend and former Los Angeles Spark Lisa Leslie was invited to speak to the team during a pep rally as it prepared for the state championship game. What she didnÂ’t know was that she would soon join LeslieÂ’s elite company as the 2010-11 Gatorade National Girls Player of the Year, an accolade given to the nationÂ’s best high school girls basketball player.

March 18, 2011 — Morehead State senior Kenneth Faried has been named a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award, which encompasses the Top 20 candidates for one of college basketball’s most prestigious awards.
Faried, who already received his second consecutive OVC Player of the Year and third straight OVC Defensive Player of Year honors, led MSU to its second OVC Tournament championship in the last three years. He has already been named to four different All-American teams, which include U.S. Basketball Writers Association, Fox Sports, Yahoo, and Sports Illustrated.
For all of her statistical milestones, national accolades and basketball skills, Courtney Vandersloot's greatest strength as a point guard remains nothing more complicated than her ability to make everyone around her that much better.
But after piloting Gonzaga to the first Sweet 16 appearance in program history last season, she reflected on the postseason run and realized there was one player on the court whose limitations she felt might hold the team back at a time of year when championships are decided. So it was that the best point guard in the country decided there was one more player she could make better.
