Striking the Pose: Ranking the Last 10 Heisman Trophy Winners

The statistics and awards from that single year are all that are taken into account.  Although it is an individual award a lot of the team's success is factored into the rankings.  The rankings reflect how each player performed when it was crucial and if the player had the "Heisman moment" or just the "it" factor.

Fiammetta out of Dallas Cowboys lineup with illness

IRVING -- Fullback Tony Fiammetta is going to miss Sunday's game against Washington because of an illness. That takes away one of the key parts of the resurgence of the Dallas Cowboys' running game, which has averaged 176.3 yards in the past four games behind the running of DeMarco Murray.Told Fiammetta had been ruled out, Murray said, "That's not good."The Cowboys also wonder how long Fiammetta will be out. Coach Jason Garrett said the team hasn't gotten a handle on the nature of the illness."We're trying to get to the bottom of what it is," Garrett said. "He's been sick all week long. We're just kind of monitoring those symptoms, and we're just going to continue to do that and see what the origin is."Garrett said it's too early to say whether Fiammetta might miss the Thanksgiving Day game.Fiammetta missed two other games with a hamstring injury, against Detroit and New England. The Cowboys rushed for 113 yards against the Lions and 77 against the Patriots. He was not on the roster in the season opener against the New York Jets, when the Cowboys rushed for 64 yards. The Cowboys have used tight end John Phillips as a blocking back. They have a rookie fullback on the practice squad, seventh-round pick Shaun Chapas.Offensive guard Montrae Holland also missed a day of practice this week with illness. Ryan praises Spencer Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said Anthony Spencer is ready to have a big game. Spencer's sack and strip of Washington Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman sealed the Cowboys' victory in the first meeting between the teams this season."His angles are better rushing the passer," Ryan said, noting Spencer's work with Leon Lett and Charles Haley this season. "You're going to see a dynamic rusher. I think it's going to show up this week. I really believe all his hard work is going to pay off. He's going to jump off, and everybody like, 'Wow! Where did this production come from?' Well, it's coming, and it's coming fast."Spencer is sixth on the team in tackles, has four sacks, two tackles for loss, 14 quarterback pressures and two forced fumbles. Kitna doubtful Backup quarterback Jon Kitna (back) missed a second day of practice Friday and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game, so third-string quarterback Stephen McGee will likely be on the active roster.McGee has been active only three times, twice in the games immediately after Tony Romo suffered a fractured rib and punctured lung against San Francisco, and against Seattle. He has not appeared in any games this season."It's life in the NFL as a backup quarterback," McGee said. "Opportunities are random. You never know when they're going to come, how they're going to come, what the situation is, where it's going to be. You've just got to always go about your business the same way. Your approach has got to be the same. I think if you do that, then when it does happen, you're as best ready as you can be." Jones questionable Running back Felix Jones was limited in practice again Friday and was listed as questionable for Sunday's game. Jones has missed the past four games with an ankle injury. If he plays, he is an option to return kickoffs, Jason Garrett said.Left guard Kyle Kosier (foot) was also listed as questionable.Receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) and cornerback Mike Jenkins (hamstring) are out.Linebacker Sean Lee said he again will play with the cast that covers his left hand, protecting his dislocated wrist. Romo honored Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Oakland Raiders running back Michael Bush were voted FedEx Air and Ground players of the week. Carlos Mendez, 817-390-7760

Offensive line injuries spoil Jerry Angelo’s fun

GM Jerry Angelo (left, with Lovie Smith) hasn’t been able to build an offensive line through the draft. | AP

Five weeks after one prominent local columnist suggested the Bears hire the football version of Theo Epstein to replace him, general manager Jerry Angelo is flying high as the architect of one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

At 8-1, 49ers turn to conquering NFC West

San Francisco, along with quarterback Alex Smith, gets ready to play an NFC West matchup against Arizona on Sunday.

Now that the San Francisco 49ers have established their dominance over most of the rest of the league, it’s time to put away their division.

Teammates say Jordy Nelson is underestimated because he’s white | ProFootballTalk

This is nothing more than DIS INFO PROPAGANDA mixing selective truth with lies.

Black QB’s aren’t ripped? Vick is the most hated Player in the NFL. Donovan McNabb helped lead Philadelphia to four NFC Championship Game berths and one Super Bowl. How many Qb’s can claim that? Does he chock in big games, yea, but so does Peyton Manning. Look at the reviews of Cam Newton. He was called the biggest bust in the history of the NFL before he took a snap. Why? Because Jamarcus Russell was a bust. Is that fair? For every black 1st round QB bust. I can name 10 QB’s who weren’t black. Lets look at additional 1st Round QB bust. Who were AT LEAST given the benefit of doubt. The Washington Redskins continue their rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday, but that might not be the most important football game of the weekend for the Redskins organization. The most important game is tonight, and its taking place in Waco, TX. CHFF Game of the Week: Chargers-Bears

The Chargers (4-5) visit the Bears (6-3) in an inter-conference battle between two clubs fighting to keep pace in crowded divisions. San Diego could wake up Monday tied for first place or all alone in last place in the AFC West. The Bears need to scratch and claw through the end of the season to pick up the wild-card playoff crumbs the undefeated Packers will leave behind in the NFC North.

The Week in Tweets - Washington Times

A selection of my 140-character musings on Twitter (@dandalyonsports) for those of you who don't follow me (yet):

Here in Miami for the #Redskins’ game against the #Dolphins. Hope they count points in Florida better than they do presidential ballots.

I’m pretty sure Reggie Bush leads #NFL backs in highest ratio of Twitter followers to rushing yards. #Redskins #NFL

Rex Grossman

’s completions of 17 and 20 yards on consecutive plays to start the Washington Redskins ‘ second drive against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday were a reminder that it is indeed possible for this team to gain significant chunks of yards, to succeed and then build on that success.

That basic level of competence, or at least the outside football world’s belief in it, dissipated while Grossman was relegated to the sideline for Washington’s three previous games.

John Dudley's Week 10 NFL power rankings

After nice early runs by the upstart Lions and Bills, the rankings are beginning to look like most people thought they would back at the beginning of the season, with the notable exception of the 49ers. Before Sunday there appeared to be about seven legitimate Super Bowl contenders, but that number drops by two with the news that Texans QB Matt Schaub will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury and Matt Leinart -- he of the hot tub party and no pass attempts since 2009 -- will replace him, and with another baffling road loss by the Ravens, who can't seem to sustain the fury they bring whenever they meet the Steelers.

Sideline Chatter | What will he do when 'Survivor' comes calling? | Seattle Times Newspaper

Stupid? He thinks it was a streak of genius.

Jace Lankow, the 22-year-old who stripped down to his skivvies, ran wild and inadvertently sparked a bench-clearing riot during last week's UCLA-Arizona football game after coming onto the field dressed as a referee, told police he did it because he wants to be a contestant on the TV show "Wipeout."

Joe Flacco has been average QB in fantasy football - SI.com - Fantasy

By Nik Bonaddio and Keith Goldner, numberFire.com, Special to SI.com

Whether it's Tebow Time or the Palmer/Ponder Paradox, the QB shuffle is the dance on this week's card, and we're headlining our second column by looking at two QBs with ignominious backup histories. We'll start by looking at a QB who couldn't beat out Tyler Palko, and then move on to one who couldn't beat out Matt Leinart. Ouch.

Don Banks

The last time we saw the Packers lose, in Week 15 last year, we wondered if they'd even make the playoffs. Twelve straight wins and a Super Bowl later, and we're wondering if perfection is on the horizon.

With 10 games remaining on their schedule, of course it's way premature and patently ridiculous to start speculating on the Green Bay Packers' chances to go through the regular season a perfect 16-0. And of course we're going to do it anyway. Premature speculation comes with the job when you cover the NFL these days.

NFL's Year of Passers

When the Tampa Bay Bucs moved up to select quarterback Josh Freeman in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, the reason was simple: the NFL is a quarterback-driven league.

Most successful teams have a dynamic quarterback, and that's especially true this year.

Look at the teams that are sitting atop their divisions. Now look at their quarterbacks:

2012 NFL Mock Draft Weekly Update #5

The Colts blew a 24 to 14 lead to the Kansas City Chiefs.  The team that gets the #1 overall pick will likely get Andrew Luck.

There were 2 once in a generation quarterback prospects prior to Andrew Luck.  Those signal callers were John Elway and Peyton Manning.

The Colts traded Elway hoping for a King’s Ransom in return because Elway did not want to play for the Colts.  That didn’t work out and the Baltimore Colts ended up relocating to Indianapolis.  This may have influenced the original Cleveland Browns to relocate becoming the Baltimore Ravens.

2012 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting Full NFL Draft Order

The college football season is a little bit closer to being halfway through, and with prospects being scouted each week, there's no denying that the draft is in the back of everyone's minds.

So, let's bring it to the front and get the discussions started.

It Is What It Is

The start of the 2011 season begins Thursday night in Green Bay. A game hasn’t been played yet, but already history has been made. Peyton Manning‘s streak of 227 consecutive starts will come to an end. A shortened but chaotic offseason/preseason resulted in many familiar faces ending up in different uniforms.

Redskins-Ravens Film Review: Offense

Quarterback Rex Grossman of the Washington Redskins hands off to Dante Barnes in preseason football at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, MD, Thursday, August 25, 2011. ( Andrew Harnik / The Washington Times)

My observations, analysis and conclusions about the Washington Redskins ‘ offense after re-watching their 34-31 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens using the TV broadcast:

Tale of the tape: Redskins offense | John Keim | NFL | Washington Examiner

1. All about the quarterbacks at the start. Rex Grossman did an excellent job of never feeling the rush. He’ll make mistakes and he’ll look bad at times, but the guy stands in the pocket and keeps his eyes downfield. And when he has time, he’ll slice a defense. Of course, any QB in this league should be able to do that; the key is what happens when you’re under duress. I love how deadly Grossman is in the middle of the field, but I wish he would use other parts as well. Tough to win consistently by just targeting one area. I did not add up, yet, how many of his completions went to the middle but my initial guess is that 75 percent of his completions were in this zone.
