Why don't we care that Jessica Simpson is pregnant?

Jessica Simpson and her fiance, Eric Johnson, left, may or may not be expecting a baby.

Editor's note: Christine Michele is a contributing editor at Socialite Life where she writes about pop culture.

(CNN) -- It seems that in recent years, Hollywood has been "baby crazy," and celebrity followers have flocked to entertainment shows, websites and magazines with a voracious hunger to get the latest news on which stars are expecting a visit from the stork.

Random thoughts, varied opinions and a few frothings

For those of you with short attention spans, here are a few of my takes on the stories of the day:

--"Business Leaders Begin Effort To Help Bucks, Bradley Center" says the headline in Monday's Journal/Sentinel .  The NBA is still on strike and the Bradley Center still needs work--not just the improvements the local basketball team says it needs to bolster the building's revenue streams but just plain basic maintenance.   As it is, the BC doesn't look it's age, at least not to customers, but the lack of a steady funding stream remains an issue no one in this town seems to want to take on.   While the Arena, Frontier Airlines Center and the white-elephant that is the Milwaukee Theater enjoy the tax support that comes with being part of the Wisconsin Center District, the Bradley Center is on its own.   Ridiculous as that set up is, it's even more insane that it continues.   What should be an easy fix is a lingering embarrassment.

Angela Lansbury to Be Named "Living Landmark" in November

Five-time Tony winner Angela Lansbury is one of a select group of individuals who will be deemed a "Living Landmark" next month.

The New York Landmarks Conservancy will bestow its distinguished "Living Landmarks" awards at a Nov. 2 celebration at The Plaza Hotel. Liz Smith will host the gala.

The Madoffs Come Trick-or-Treating

Just in time for Halloween, members of the Bernard L. Madoff family have emerged from wherever they keep themselves to squeeze a little more money from anyone willing to pay attention to them. The holiday is the perfect occasion for this sort of venture. It is the season for ghouls, isn’t it?

An authorized biography of the family is being published on Monday. You will have no problem learning its title somewhere else. It’s not incumbent upon me to contribute to the hype more than is absolutely necessary.

Brian Williams' 'Rock Center' promises to be showcase for quality TV journalism

If you want a peek at the biggest challenge facing NBC anchor Brian Williams and his newsmagazine Rock Center , look no further than Mariah Carey's twins. • The TV debut of those 6-month-old babies — along with mama Carey, daddy Nick Cannon and interviewer Barbara Walters — helped power ABC's 20/20 to some of its best ratings in years on Oct. 21. • That's how today's newsmagazines often earn success: celebrity revelations, true crime stories and coverage of tabloid-tinged "soft" news. • So why is Williams leading the first new network TV newsmagazine to debut in nearly 20 years, with the mantra of being "a showcase home for quality journalism?"

- "Rumble In The Jungle"

. In a logical world, there shouldn’t be a line in the sand between watching materialistic fame whores in rich pockets of the country drunkenly flip tables and five-year-olds get spray tanned but, whoa boy, is there ever.

There’s always existed a certain curiosity about the show for me since it debuted in 2009, especially since it’s gone on to find footing in the landscape pop culture of late. Particularly, its breakout star Eden Wood has been on a recent media blitz that has her shriek-singing onmorning televisionand schilling everything from books(the title noting her long, crazy journey: From Cradle to Crown ) tonovelty ties. Her arch-nemesis on the show, MaKenzie even became a bit of an internet meme herself after having anon-camera meltdownover a lost pacifier she called “ni-ni.”

It would be tough to find a better triumvirate of promos than the Arkansas Travelers' back-to-back-to-back onslaught of intrigue and hilarity. The team is granting free admission to all fans wearing white pants to the ballpark Wednesday, as after Labor Day such an outfit represents an unforgivable fashion faux pas. The next evening brings another installment of the Minors' first (and still best) "Clunker Car" night, with a used automobile given away every single inning and $3 tickets available through a variety of local car dealers. And, finally, Friday marks the return of pregame midget wrestling, a decidedly un-PC bout between Bobby Dean and Lil Kato. The winner receives the World Midget Wrestling Heavyweight Championship belt, custom designed for the petite waist.

It may be tough timing for Anthony interview

Anthony, acquitted for murdering her daughter Caylee, will likely face a choice when she decides to grant an interview. Her consideration comes at a time when broadcast network executives are particularly skittish about the impression of paying subjects to talk. (AP Photo/Joe Burbank, Pool)

'Glee' recap: 'Thriller' of a Super Bowl episode?

By Vicki Hyman/The Star-Ledger

FOX Artie (Kevin McHale) takes on Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

"Glee" star Kevin McHale pretty much summed up my feelings about the show's "event" episodes ( Madonna , Britney Spears , "Rocky Horror") when he spoke to NBC about the the coveted post-Super Bowl spot: “It's not like a themed episode. There's a great storyline and it's kind of a real 'Glee' episode." Yep, "Glee" has a hard time multi-tasking, and I say that out of love. Kick-ass routines and consistent characterization and brilliant one-liners and must-see stunt casting and plot twists that aren't incredulity-straining? What am I saying? Credulous "Glee" plots are about as rare as sober makeout sessions on "Jersey Shore."

David Fincher: The Complex Mind of 'Social Network's' Anti-Social Director

The new Hollywood Reporter magazine offers a rare profile of the anti-authoritarian rebel who shot Rooney Mara topless for a new 'Dragon Tattoo' poster, wanted to call Mark Zuckerberg 'Judas,' and doesn't play the Oscar game. 'You won't see me on Barbara Walters, Oprah.'

The following article appears in the current issue of The Hollywood Reporter on newsstands Thursday.

'The View' co-hosts attack, defend Charlie Sheen

The View sters have been hashing out Charlie Sheen's latest escapades over the past two days in their Hot Topics chats.

On Tuesday, they talked about his at-home rehab, which prompted Barbara Walters to say, "It really depends on how much he wants to change. Obviously he doesn't."

A more optimistic Elisabeth Hasselbeck said, "Maybe this will pave the way... maybe this could be a model that will work."

Barbara Walters discusses Egypt crisis: 'Isn't it amazing that nobody saw this coming?' - Pop2it - Zap2it

One wouldn't normally consider Barbara Walters to be an expert in foreign affairs, but when you think about the sheer number of political figures she's interviewed over the years, it's hard to find a better authority in the world of journalism. Piers Morgan invited Walters to CNN to discuss the chaos going on in Egypt on Wednesday, Feb. 2., noting that Walters is one of few people who can say they've met the men behind the crisis.
