Nominees have been submitted for the 39th annual Vince Lombardi Outstanding Down Lineman of the Year Award 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Expo Center on the Clinton County Fairgrounds.
Nominees are Michael Schmitz and Evan Ostermeier from Blanchester High School; Matt Ison and Ricky Habermehl from East Clinton High School; Jared Salisbury and Trent Smart from Clinton-Massie High School; and Jesse McCann and Alex Begg from Wilmington High School.

Charger fans, this is what rock bottom looks like.
After losing to Green Bay, there was a lot of reason for optimism. The Chargers had taken the defending Super Bowl champions to their limit and the Packers barely escaped Quaalcomm with a win. A good place to begin the second half win streak would be the next week against the Raiders. The only problem was that game ended in a home loss as well. The home team was outdone by a Raiders squad without Darren McFadden, a quarterback who had been in camp less than two weeks and a rookie that all of a sudden looked like a pro bowler in Denarius Moore. Next game out the Chargers lost to the Bears, led by arch-enemy Jay Cutler. Finally, today’s loss to the Broncos shows how far and fast a team that was the odds-on favorite to win the division can fall. The Chargers went from starting the season 4-1 to 4-7 after a loss to a team led by Tim Tebow. Tim freaking Tebow.

Tiger fans have long been clamoring for R.C. Johnson to retire, and at Monday’s press conference, after 16 long years of ups and downs, he did just that. Johnson was not the only member of the athletic department to bid farewell on Monday, as head football coach Larry Porter was fired after two seasons.

Vincent Thomas Lombardi is the ‘it’ man. No matter how many decades go by, this is the man who will always be remembered as the one who bought America the love of the game.
