Holiday TV: Sidekicks crucial to classics’ charm | HeraldNet.com - Life

Rudolph. Charlie Brown. The Grinch. They're longtime favorites who always grab top billing when the networks roll out their holiday programs.

You have to wonder, though, if they would have become big TV stars, or if their shows would have earned "classic" status, if not for the extraordinary contributions of solid supporting players.

Harold & Kumar Make Merry In Holiday Flick - Lower Macungie, PA Patch

Full disclosure: I have never seen any of the Cheech and Chong movies. (Did you know there were 15 of them? Fifteen.) I do not partake of the marijuana and therefore, I never thought my interest would lie in the so-called “stoner comedy.”

My lack of engagement extends to everyone’s new favorite crunk cowboys: Harold and Kumar. The duo is back with their third film, “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.” Apparently, this movie picks up where the last (Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay) left off, but rest assured, the plot is certainly not deep enough for all you newbies to concern yourselves. At least I didn’t.

Review: A Christmas Story at Actors Theatre [Theater]

It’s everything a comedy about Christmas should be.

In a practically flawless opening night at Actors Theatre, A Christmas Story brought laughs, cries and a host of empathetic cringes as patrons were transported back to memories of their own childhood holidays.

Set in northern Indiana in the 1940’s, young Ralphie Parker (played for the second year by Silver Creek Middle School’s Henry Miller) is on a quest for the ultimate Christmas gift: a Red Ryder BB gun. Through his unceasing determination to secure this most-prized of presents whilst maintaining his invisibility to bully Scut Farkas (YPAS student Carter Caldwell), Ralphie entangles his family and friends in some interesting conundrums.

Make All I Want for Christmas theme come true

When Santa comes to Town on Saturday, Nov. 19, you can be sure that people of all ages will line the streets of Downtown and Kerr Village.

This year’s theme is All I Want for Christmas, and for years the parade has been part of a special story of giving back to our community.

Sometimes we get so caught up with the excitement of Christmas, we forget there are many who live in our community who go without over the holidays.

Planning ahead

Nov. 18-20 — “A CHRISTMAS STORY”: Cascades Theatrical Company presents the story of a young boy and his quest to get a BB gun for Christmas; with a champagne and dessert reception Nov. 18; $20, $15 seniors, $12 students; 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18-19, 2 p.m. Nov. 20; Greenwood Playhouse, 148 N.W. Greenwood Ave., Bend; 541-389-0803 or www.cascadestheatrical.org.

She & Him: A Very She & Him Christmas

Blame it on the non-stop Christmas-song radio in every retail store you walk into post-Thanksgiving, or blame it on the fantastically repetitious renditions of songs you’ve heard a million times by musicians you’ve stopped caring about, but Christmas music stopped garnering excitement for most of us quite a few years ago. You could also blame it on the cynicism of a Jewish kid who spent most of his Christmas’ alone with a box of chicken lo mein, an egg roll, and 12 reruns of A Christmas Story .

8/24-9/11: 'Boeing-Boeing' takes flight at Phoenix Theatre

Like many aspiring actors, Dion Johnson left home at age 20 determined to take a bite out of the Big Apple. And like most of those young dreamers, he quickly discovered that in New York, it's an actor's wallet - and his ego - that usually end up with chunks missing.

Back in Phoenix, however, he stuck to his craft, working his way up the community-theater ladder until he finally was able to make the leap to full-time professional - even if it took him the better part of two decades.

Circle Mirror Transformation Opens at Kansas City Repertory Theatre

Kansas City’s Robbins and Baldwin Featured in Ensemble Cast, 2010 Obie Award for Best New American Play

Kansas City, MO - infoZine - Who would think that a drama class in a small-town community center could forever change the lives of its students? Welcome to Shirley, Vermont, and the world playwright Annie Baker created for her five-character play Circle Mirror Transformation, running February 18-March 20 at Copaken Stage. Kyle Hatley is directing, fresh from his innovative restaging of the Rep’s 30th anniversary production of A Christmas Carol. Baker’s Obie Award-winning comedy delivers an emotional punch when five people sign up for an acting class, each having his or her own expectations. Through a series of hilarious theatre games and exercises, they begin to unpeel the layers of their everyday lives and learn far more than they bargained for about each other and themselves.
