Suspect captured after 3-county chase

A Shelbyville man led deputies on a chase through three counties before stopping late Monday night, according to the Bedford County Sheriff's Department.

Jason Ryan Davis, 29, of Belmont Avenue, was initially blue-lighted by Deputy Steven Daugherty near Wartrace because one of his vehicle's headlights was out, the BCSD said.

Davis drove at speeds up to 90 mph to Mount Olivet Road between Wartrace and Shelbyville, then north through Beech Grove on Highway 64 and on rural roads in Cannon and Coffee Counties before stopping on U.S. 41 near Interstate 24, Barrett said.

Two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of evading arrest by vehicle and driving on a revoked/suspended license were filed against Davis. He is being held on $87,000 bond at Bedford County Jail.

A written report was not available and officers were not available to explain the aggravated assault charges.

Investigators continue to search the area near Bell Buckle where Jimmy Olmstead of Manchester was last seen, Capt. Tony Barrett of the BCSD said Wednesday.

Searchers were concentrating within a mile or two of the pond off Coop Road where Olmstead had been fishing with a friend, Barrett said.

The friend said he last saw Olmstead near the pond in a heavily-wooded area. Olmstead is described as walking with a severe limp and using a cane due to a stroke. A family member said two dogs which always accompanied Olmstead are also missing.

A wallet containing $70 was stolen Monday night from an unlocked car belonging to a worker at the Jaycees Haunted House, Madison Street, Shelbyville police said Wednesday.

Also reported:

* Prescription medication and a deactivated cell phone were stolen from a car at an Oakwood Place residence Monday night, police were told.

A 4-month-old baby narrowly escaped injury Monday after a truck brushed a baby carrier being held by its mother on South Main Street.

The mother told police she confronted the man, whom she said "acted as though he had done no wrong."

Police talked to the driver, who was not charged, and said he was "oblivious to any conflict or issue between him and the complainant," was elderly and hard of hearing and seemed confused.

A resident of a Scales Road home said an individual charged with meth-related drug offenses listed in Monday's jail intake no longer lives at that residence.
