PORT JERVIS — On Wednesday, the Pastoral Care Department of Bon Secours Community Hospital, 160 E. Main St., Port Jervis, will offer a special presentation open to the public as part of Pastoral Care Week, which honors the practice of spiritual care through professional chaplaincy and pastoral counseling.
"Navigating the Grief Journey," presented by Sister Rosemary Corr, will include a presentation on what you can expect in the weeks and months after the death of a loved one, as well as some myths about grief and the mourner's six reconciliation needs.
According to Corr, "When someone dies, those left behind begin a journey that is painful, sometimes frightening, and very individual for each person.
"My hope is that this presentation will provide assistance to those who are mourning the death of a loved one," says Corr.
Corr, a certified chaplain with the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and member of the Pastoral Care Department of Bon Secours Community Hospital, has completed a course in comprehensive bereavement skills training at the Center for Loss and Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado. Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D., who is a noted author, educator, grief counselor, and director of the Center for Loss and Transition, conducted the program.
The presentation will be offered at 2 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. on the first floor of the hospital, adjacent to the cafeteria seating area. Preregistration is required by calling 858-7000, ext. 6161.
