Carroll will speak about his current research into the sustainability of agriculture and food systems and the relationship of energy and food production, with particular reference to New England food security, as well as agricultural ethics and values. PITTSFIELD — Pig Butchering Demonstration, Sunday, November 6, 9 am - 4 pm. A farm in Pittsfield, location given at time of registration. Professional backyard livestock slaughterer/butcher, Victor Huse, and Dot Perkins of UNH Cooperative Extension will offer this live demonstration. Travel by bus to tour a custom cut shop in Loudon, then to a smokehouse in Canterbury, and back to the farm by 4 pm. Bring own lunch. Space is limited to 50 people. $25 per person. ROCHESTER — The Club Unité Française of Rochester had its second monthly meeting of this year on Monday, October 17, at the Rockin' Diner in Rochester. After the Social Hour at 5:30-6:00 pm, our president, Janice d'Entremont welcomed everyone and we pledged the flag and sang some songs. We had the installation of officers for the new year 2011-2012 by Guy Duchesneau. The new officers are: Pres. Janice d'Entremont; VP Roger Letendre; Tres. Dorothy Lewis; Sec. Jeanne Trepanier, and Publicist Helene Houde. We had as guest spakers Dr. Raymond and Mrs. Rita Laurion who talked about their recent trip to Montreal as members of the Knights of The Sepulchre of Jerusalem. PORTSMOUTH — An affordable workshop series, Making Money Work for You, is being provided by UNH Cooperative Extension. The workshops are held six on consecutive Wednesdays: November 9, 16, 30, December 7, 14, 21 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Portsmouth Public Library. The series is designed for people who need to manage debt and begin saving, repair their credit history, or make it from paycheck to paycheck. The workshop series covers goal setting, credit, insurance, stretching resources, spending choices, and making a spending and savings plan.
