Teenager Wins Dream Bathurst Drive

MILDURA teenager Cameron Waters has landed the dream drive of a lifetime by winning the Shannons Supercar Showdown TV series on 7mate.

The current leader of the Australian Formula Ford Championship, 17-year-old Waters beat out Englishman Andrew Jordan in today’s episode to score the co-drive in the #77 Shannons Mars Commodore with Grant Denyer at next weekend’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Provided he can meet the minimum qualifying cut-off time at Bathurst – which he is expected to do - Waters will break Paul Dumbrell’s record (by a mere week!) as the youngest-ever driver in Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 history.

Waters beat out nine other hopefuls on the Shannons Supercar Showdown series to score his V8 Supercar debut in a car run by Kelly Racing.

The entry is the only wildcard in this year’s Bathurst field and brings the entry list up to 29 cars.

While Waters has won his drive, nine other drivers were not so fortunate.

In order of elimination they were: Kiwi Nick Cassidy, Formula Ford racer Shae Davies, Ben Small, V8 Safety Car driver Amber Anderson, karter David Sera, Aussie Racing Cars driver Hayley Swanson, Formula Ford driver Nick Foster, Samantha Reid and Brit Jordan.

Denyer and Waters will take to the Mount Panorama circuit on Thursday for opening practice for The Great Race.
