Intermittent rain showers greeted the members and guests as they approached the home of Martha and Ed Dykes for the Rumbling Waters Arts Club meeting on Oct. 10.
President Martha Dykes began the meeting with the invocation. After introducing the guests and the members, a short business meeting was held.
The program was presented by one of our members, Carol Hickman.
During the past few years she has taken art lessons from various teachers to learn the use of different mediums.
Hickman brought several examples of her latest art projects, including her works in charcoal and pastels.
The charcoal was of an elderly man with character in his face. The pastel was of a boy looking through a fence.
She said that she made many changes while working on these to arrive at the final pictures.
Many of her prize-winning paintings have been in oils. As she experimented with acrylic, she found that it was more difficult to blend and mix, which was surprising to her.
She also brought quilts which she had designed and made.
Guests attending the arts club meeting included Charlotte Henderson, Kathleen Holt, Faye Youngstrom, Barbara Moody, Louise Elrod, and Marlene Goodman. Members were Joan Jones, Carol Hickman, Carolyn Osborn, Sarah Mooneyham, Jo Ann Lambert, Rita Ward, Juanita McCullough, Cookie Knott, Mary Elizabeth (Ebba) Dunn and co-hostess, Patsy Holmes.
The next meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at Southern Homes and Gardens.
