In the spirit of the Fourth of July, it's a great time to take a look at some of the top American PGA golfers. While it may not have been our game originally, we have really taken the sport of golf and turned it into something special. America has seen some amazing golfers on the PGA Tour over the years.

Here are my picks for PGA's top American golfers:

Bubba Watson: One of few American lefty golfers, Bubba Watson is known for his length. Born in Bagdad, Fla., Watson played on the same high school team as Boo Weekly andHeath Slocum. He was a junior college All-American and went on to play for University of Georgia, as well. He began his professional career in 2003, playing on the Nationwide Tour until 2005. He has five professional wins to date and 2011 has been a great season for him. I expect to see more from Bubba Watson in the future of golf.

Matt Kuchar: Matt Kuchar is a fine example of great American golf. He is in the prime of his career. In 2010, he tied for sixth in the U.S. Open, as well as tying for 25th at The Masters, and tying for 27th at the British Open. He's seen some of his best finishes in 2011 and it's apparent Kuchar still has a lot of golf left in him. He has eight top-10 finishes in 2011 on the PGA Tour.

Phil Mickelson: Speaking of lefties, we cannot forget Phil Mickelson. In fact, he is probably the most well-known leftie on the tour. But there's so much more that makes Phil great. His history and consistency of success in golf makes him one of the top American golfers today.

Tiger Woods: Love him or hate him, Tiger is still one of the best golfers America has ever made. He was the highest paid athlete in the world. He has broken and set records right and left. Although he was missed at this year's Open and will be taking some time off to heal an injury, Tiger might still have some great golf left in him. Even if his career ends as it stands today, he will still forever be etched in golf history as one of the biggest stars America has seen on the PGA Tour.
