Frank Joseph Starcevich Jr., 79, of Pekin, passed away at 6:32 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, at his residence.
Born May 12, 1932, in Pekin to Frank Joseph Sr. and Vera Lakin Starcevich, he married Ruth Elizabeth Clayton on March 12, 1959, in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Susan (Jeff) Schwarz of Pekin; two grandsons, Clayton Joseph Schenck of Jacksonville, Fla., and Alex Joseph Schwarz of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lisa Ann Starcevich in 2006; and one sister, Pat Fischer.
Frank was a United States Navy veteran who served in the Korean War and as a Seabee in the Philippines.
A member of Operative Plasters & Cement Masons Local 12 in Pekin, Frank was a cement finisher for more than 50 years in the Pekin and Peoria area, retiring in 1995. He also had taught a class on concrete at Bradley University.
Frank was a dedicated volunteer, donating his time and talent as a cement mason to many community endeavors, including Habitat for Humanity and Pekin Park District, where he enjoyed playing as a little kid. He was recognized for his community service as a past Marigold Festival Grand Marshal.
He was of the Catholic faith.
His funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. The Rev. Timothy Nolan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Navy and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
