ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tampa Bay placed Evan Longoria on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained oblique muscle in his left side.
The injury could sideline the all-star third baseman a minimum of three weeks, manager Joe Maddon said before the Rays lost to the Orioles for a three-game sweep.
"There's never a good time. . . . It's just unfortunate," Maddon said. "We're having a hard time scoring runs out of the chute. We're on pace to score 162 runs this year, which might be a major-league record. . . . (Longoria's) probably our best run producer and now we don't have him."
The Rays filled the roster slot by purchasing the contract of infielder Felipe Lopez from Triple-A Durham.
• Rays left fielder Johnny Damon (sore right calf) was a late scratch.
• Orioles left fielder Luke Scott was out of the lineup because of a strained right groin.
WASHINGTON — The Braves placed right-handed pitcher Jair Jurrjens on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right oblique muscle, retroactive to March 25.
The Braves recalled left- hander Mike Minor from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Jurrjens would throw a simulated game at Gwinnett this week. After a start next week, he should be ready to return April 16 against the Mets.
Pirates center fielder and No. 3 hitter Andrew McCutchen was scratched from the lineup against the Cubs because of a stiff neck.
• The Indians released minor-league outfielder Preston Mattingly, the son of Dodgers manager and former Yankees star Don Mattingly.
• The Tigers' Magglio Ordoñez did not play against the Yankees because his surgically repaired ankle is sore. Manager Jim Leyland said the Tigers will wait to decide when Ordoñez will play next.
• The Red Sox dropped Carl Crawford in their batting order, moving their new $142 million man from third to seventh against the Rangers. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
• Marlins slugger Mike Stanton did not play against the Mets for the second consecutive game because of a tight hamstring.
