Injured Florida Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison gets chewed out for racing onto field to celebrate

— Logan Morrison got an earful Tuesday from manager Edwin Rodriguez, who wasn't happy when the injured outfielder ran on the field to celebrate the Marlins' victory in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday night.

"We had a conversation, a very mature conversation,' Rodriguez said. "It was – how do you call that – a monologue, with his eyes open.'

Morrison went on the disabled list last week with a sprained arch. He had the cast removed Monday afternoon, but the foot is far from being healed.

Rodriguez didn't see Morrison leap up the steps and celebrate with his teammates after Omar Infante's two-out single won the game. But after being told by a team trainer, Rodriguez went to a video monitor to see the replay.

"When I looked at the picture, there he is, right in the middle,' said Rodriguez.

By then, the players had left the clubhouse. So, Rodriguez's first order of business Tuesday to talk to Morrison. He wouldn't share exactly what he said.

"You don't want to know,' Rodriguez said, rolling his eyes. The gist of it: "You have to be smarter.' Rodriguez said Morrison got the message.

Morrison said he was careful not to hurt himself. He also said he didn't mean to upset his manager.

"If I can't be out on the field with the guys, I'm more nervous watching than I am playing. The emotions of winning took over,' he said.

Post-game celebrations are a delicate topic for the Marlins. Last July, Chris Coghlan suffered a season-ending knee injury while celebrating walk-off win. Rodriguez shook his head about what might've happened Monday night.

"Chris Coghlan last year and now Logan Morrison,' he said. "We can laugh now -- nothing happened.'

The Marlins, who have nine come-from-behind wins, have had a few on-the-field celebrations, including players applying the shaving cream pie-in-the-face, which is how Coghlan got hurt last summer.

But Rodriguez noted that even those celebrations have been toned down.

"I like it. Times change,' he said with a laugh. "We have to make adjustments.'

Morrison will go to Jupiter this weekend to exercise his foot and prepare for rehab games before he comes off the disabled list.

Matt Dominguez, Florida's third-base prospect, is also working out in Jupiter. He fractured the tip of his left elbow March 31 when he was hit by a pitch in a spring-training game with Class AAA New Orleans.

An X-ray on Friday showed the fracture has healed. Dominguez is taking ground balls but has not started hitting yet. He is aiming for a May 10 return to the Zephyrs. He could get called up later this summer by the Marlins if he can hit consistently.

Early start for series finale: Wednesday's game starts at 12:10 p.m. so the Dodgers can return to Los Angeles and have a full day off Thursday before hosting the San Diego Padres on Friday.

The Marlins are expecting at least 20,000 as part of a Weather Day promotion with local schools and a Miami TV station.

The Marlins are also off Thursday before starting a seven-game road trip Friday in Cincinnati for three games and then St. Louis for four starting Monday.
