A couple taken into custody for what authorities said was operating the first methamphetamine lab in Rome in their Riverside Drive home had their cases sent to the county grand jury by Judge Daniel C. Wilson in City Court Thursday.
Felony exams were waived in the cases of Jason A. Parise, 27, and Dawn A Davis, 30, both of 402 Riverside Drive and each charged with one count of third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine and two counts of acting in a manner as to injure a child.
The couple’s drug-making equipment was found in the main living area, the basement and primarily in the attic of the two-story dwelling, law enforcers said.
Authorities said Davis is the mother of the two children, a 5-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. Parise is a companion of Davis, but not the children’s father, authorities said. Davis also owned the residence, according to city tax records.
Det. Commander Timothy J. Bates said the pair were using the "one-pot" method of making meth, also referred to as the "shake and bake" method. This involves mixing the ingredients together in a two-liter soda bottle, a process that takes about two to four hours. Officials said meth is made using both household items and chemicals available at local pharmacies.
¿ Franklin G. Salcedo, 25, of 111 Locomotive Ave., second floor, was sentenced to seven days in county jail and granted a 358-day conditional discharge on a count of driving while intoxicated. His license was also suspended for 90 days and he was ordered to pay a $255 surcharge.
On a count of operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver, Salcedo was sentenced to five days in jail to run concurrent with his previous sentence and was ordered to pay an $80 surcharge. Counts of operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation were dismissed.
Police said at 3:41 a.m. April 3, Salcedo was northbound on West Thomas Street when his vehicle became disabled. He was later found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.12 percent, police said.
