ALIQUIPPA -- Aliquippa police are searching for a driver whose vehicle struck a man walking along Route 51 early Thursday.
Mark Johnston, 41, of 943 Route 18, Raccoon Township, was walking south in the middle of the northbound lanes near the Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge when he was struck around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, said Aliquippa Police Chief Andre Davis.
Davis said Johnston was flown to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh. Johnston, Davis said, apparently suffered some fractures and was treated and released.
There were no witnesses and Johnston had no memory of the accident. Police did find broken glass and the inner part of a passenger-side door mirror, Davis said.
City police have asked body shops to notify them if anyone brings in a vehicle with a damaged side mirror.
Before Johnston was struck, Davis said Jason Liberatore of Monaca had to swerve to avoid striking Johnston. Liberatore's car struck the guardrail, but he wasn't injured.
