Having all six seniors reach championship matches in doubles helped the Park Rapids girls tennis team repeat as champions in the season-opening Park Rapids Invitational last Saturday.
Brittany Kinkel and Katie Walsh won the title at No. 3 doubles while Bonnie Baumgartner and Allie Girtz reached the finals at No. 1 doubles and Lexi Burlingame and Taylor Wheeler reached the finals at No. 2 doubles. However, those two championship matches were rained out and couldn’t be completed, so Park Rapids shared first place at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles.
Heidi Schaum won the title at No. 3 singles, Lydia Schaum took third at No. 2 singles, Julia Renner won the consolation title at No. 1 singles and Charity Ridlon won the consolation title at No. 4 singles as the Panthers compiled 29 points. Roseau finished second in this eight-team tournament with 23.50 points.
The Panthers compiled 25 points to defeat Roseau’s 22 for the title last season.

Heidi Schaum (No. 3 singles): defeated Ashley Carlson, WDC; defeated Makenna Hanson, MA, 6-1, 6-1; defeated Jessica Glutt, Mhd, 6-3, 7-5 (1st).
Charity Ridlon (No. 4 singles): lost to Patti Marshall, TRF, 3-6, 6-2, 10-7; defeated Desiree Isola, WDC, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3; defeated Annika Pederson, MA, 6-0, 6-1 (5th).
Bonnie Baumgartner/Allie Girtz (No. 1 doubles): defeated Kayla Michelson/Katie Trygg, Mhd, 6-1, 6-1; defeated Jada Hoffman/Rachel Riley, MA, 6-0, 6-1; Championship match vs. Kaylee Koop/Sabrina Okeson, TRF, rained out (tie for 1st).
Lexi Burlingame/Taylor Wheeler (No. 2 doubles): defeated Carli Lunsetter/Fanny Marshall, TRF, 7-5, 2-6, 10-6; defeated Tori Bazey/Veronica Garcia, R, 3-6, 6-2, 10-5; Championship match vs. Morgan Daniels/Kaci Walvatne, FF, rained out (tie for 1st).
