R.B. ‘Ben’ Miller Jr. - Ardmore, OK - The Daily Ardmoreite

R.B. “Ben” Miller Jr., 81, of Madill, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011, at the Integris Marshall County Hospital in Madill. He was born on August 27, 1929, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to the late Roscoe Bennett Miller and Carolyn Sue Davis Miller.

He was known as “Buddy” during his early school years in Madill, then later on as “Ben”. He graduated from Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore, Oklahoma. He went into Army service at the age of 17 and stayed with the Army 25 years, 9 months and 8 days. He participated in several sports while serving with the Army. Ben served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

While stationed in Germany after WWII, he met and married Ruth Striefler in Acheffenburg, West Germany. To this union was born his two children, Caroline Sue on March 5, 1960, and Bennett Davis on February 5, 1966. After retiring from the Army he moved back to Madill in 1977 to care for his mother whose health was failing. He later married Betty Sparlin Birdsall on February 9, 1981, and went to work for Joe Brown Company for 12 years. Then he and Betty formed a partnership Vending business of their own and worked for 12 years building their business, retiring permanently in 2006. Ben was a member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge, First Baptist Church in Mannsville and the Cherokee tribe.

His Army career was his life. He lived to serve his country in whatever country he was sent.

He is survived by: wife, Betty Miller, Madill, Oklahoma; children, Bennett Davis and wife, Jeanette, and Caroline Sue Monroe and husband, Bill, Arkansas; and sister, Elizabeth Rushing, Madill, Oklahoma.

Graveside services were August 27, 2011, at the Woodberry-Forest Cemetery, Madill, Oklahoma. Kevin Russell officiated the service. Services under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Kingston, Oklahoma.
