DURHAM, N.C.- College Soccer News has announced its annual top 40 recruiting class rankings for the 2011 men's soccer season and Duke's group of incoming freshmen has been tabbed as the third best in the nation by the organization. The Blue Devils have added nine freshmen to the squad and will have 10 newcomers overall.
Fourth-year head coach John Kerr welcomes a talented group of incoming freshmen with outstanding resumes. The 10 newcomers hail from seven different states and one different country. They bring with them international experience with the U.S. youth national teams and hail from excellent club and academy programs all across the nation.
College Soccer News had this to say about the Blue Devils incoming group.
"When it is all said and done this class may turn out to be the most productive in the country," according to the organization. "John Kerr welcomes a class to Durham that should help address the offensive firepower that the Blue Devils lost. Midfielder Nick Palodichuk from Battleground, Washington is among the marquee players in the class. Palodichuk, who was the 2010 Parade Magazine National Player of the Year, is a gifted individual with the ability to dominate a match. Midfielder Sean Akira Davis, ranked by CSN as the number three recruit in the 2011 class, is a multi-year member of the U.S. National Team program. Defender Nat Eggleston is among other members of a very impressive recruiting class."
Duke officially begins the 2011 season on Aug. 10 with the first practice of the year. The Blue Devils travel to Ft. Wayne, Ind., on Aug. 19 for exhibition matches against Indiana and IUPUI in the SHinDigz National Soccer Festival. The season officially kicks off on Aug. 26 at UNC Greensboro.
