On Aug. 4 at 7 p.m., the Venetian Arts Society (VAS) and members of the Monday Book Club will host an event at Inspired Interiors that will be centered around their new exhibit, "Celebration ofFort Lauderdale : The First 100 Years," and will raise funds to benefit the Stranahan House.
Guests arriving at Inspired Interiors for an evening will be greeted by April Kirk, the new executive director of the historic Stranahan House and the Monday Book Club founder Barbara Lefka, whose art will be on display for the month along with artist Andrew James McCormack. Pianist Michael Battle will be presenting a concert entitled "Fire @ Twilight," featuring classical and original favorites throughout the night.
"Our August exhibit is entitled 'Celebration Fort Lauderdale: The First 100 Years,'" said William Riddle, co-founder and principal of the Venetian Arts Society. "We couldn't think of a better organization to benefit than the Stranahan House, especially with the opportunity of introducing their new executive director to the general public."
The event will also feature a drawing for a piece of furniture from Inspired Interior's Phoenix Collection. Guests who wish to become members of the Stranahan House Museum can purchase a family membership for $50 and receive complimentary entry to the event. Tickets are $30 per person at the door.
"We are especially pleased to be the first art gallery to present Barbara Lefka's 'Ladies in Red' series of oil paintings," said Riddle.
Lefka studied at thePhiladelphiaMuseum of Art School and at Florida Atlantic University. Painting has been an avocation throughout her life and as an artist and creator of practical art, she believes that art should be enjoyed in useful and fulfilling ways … not just hanging on the wall. To this end, her images are on table place mats and greeting cards. Barbara will also read from her new book "The Scarlet Macaw," a working title.
Prior to joining the Stranahan House, April Kirk held various development positions at the Ann Storck Center, Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre and the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival.
