Moulton elected president of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity
Johnathan William Moulton, a 2008 graduate of East Henderson High School, was elected president of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity for his senior year.
Moulton is majoring in accounting at Western Carolina University. He made the dean's list for the spring 2011 semester and was initiated into the Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in the Social Sciences.
He was the vice treasurer at Delta Sigma Phi in 2010-11.
The Beacon Child Development Center was awarded a $5,000 grant by the Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation of Henderson County, stated Jackie Scott, the center's director.
The grant will be used to upgrade the outdoor play area, according to Scott.
‘The grant from the Community Foundation of Henderson County makes available additional resources to further upgrade and better secure the present outdoor play area," Scott said. "It is important that the classroom learning environment easily extends to the natural outside play area."
Students graduate from Western Governors University
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The following students received degrees from Western Governors University.
Ricardo Martinez of Hendersonville received his master's degree in education. Jason Smith of Hendersonville received his bachelor's degree in information technology. Amanda Cumbo of Hendersonville received her Post Baccalaureate Teacher Preparation Program degree in elementary education. Lena Zaludek of Pisgah Forest received her bachelor's degree in mathematics education.
Jessica Calvillo Molina, daughter of Gabriel and Maria Calvillo, of Hendersonville was selected as a finalist in the Pre-Teen North Carolina Scholarship and Recognition program, which was held Aug. 12 -14 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center in Durham.
David Jacklin named the new Director of Community Impact
David Jacklin has been named the new Director of Community Impact at United Way of Henderson County.
Jacklin worked at Park Ridge Health for the past six years, most recently as Director of Community Outreach. In that capacity, he oversaw two UWHC funded programs, Park Ridge Kid Power and PREP. Jacklin volunteered as a Loaned Executive for UWHC during the 2010 Campaign.
A native of Avery's Creek and graduate of Appalachian State University, Jacklin is a member of Kiwanis, on the board of Smart Start of Henderson County, and cub master for Boy Scouts Troop 601. Jacklin and his wife, Julie, live in Henderson County with their two sons.
"David is devoted to making Henderson County a better place to live. UWHC staff, board members and volunteers are excited to have his enthusiasm and commitment as part of organization," said Ruth Birge, UWHC executive director.
