The Veterans Advisory Board and the Fort Rodman–Fort Taber Historical Association will honor the 749 American troops killed in a 1944 training operation, with a ceremony on April 23.
The D-Day training operation, called Exercise Tiger, took place on April 28, 1944. A German attack during the operation killed more Americans than any other incident during World War II except Pearl Harbor.
The memorial ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 23, at 10 a.m. at the Fort Rodman-Fort Taber Military Museum at 1000 Rodney French Blvd. It will include a speech from Coleman Nee, the secretary of veterans services for Massachusetts, the Northeast Navy Band and the Rhode Island Guards of Thunder Artillery Group.
All veterans are asked to proudly display their service insignia.
