Radio Free Charleston goes hi-def

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The first hi-def episode of Radio Free Charleston is online now at thegazz.com/popcult. The music this week is by Charleston heavy-metal behemoths, WhiteChapel District, who was featured in gazz last week. (See the Q&A elsewhere at thegazz.com.) The program features two songs by the band recorded live at Tomahawks Smokehouse and Saloon.

Also featured are the duo of Chad Foss and Sean Sydnor, recorded at the Wednesday night Electric Jam at The Blue Parrot. They duet on a cover of Lindsey Buckingham's "Big Love."

This episode also includes the trailer for Eamon Hardiman's latest film, "Zombie Babies," which had its final cut premiere at The Empty Glass on April 13.

Host segments were shot in front of Jeff Pierson's East End mural, across the street from the Culture Center in the state Capitol Complex. Says host Rudy Pannuci, "We've been wanting to use this beautiful artwork as a backdrop for some time, and we finally had the perfect combination of weather and light."

Full production notes can be found at the PopCult blog at thegazz.com.
