Burnt Orange Nation

football team holds its annual spring scrimmage today at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium beginning at 2:00 p.m. CT.  The scrimmage is open to the public and seating will be open. Fans who cannot attend in person can catch coverage of the spring scrimmage live on ESPN. Play-by-play announcer Joe Tessitore will be joined by analysts Urban Meyer and Chris Spielman.

With Mack Brown closing practices this year, today's scrimmage will be the first and only look that most fans get of the team following a disastrous 5-7 campaign that led to a near-complete overhaul of the coaching staff. Greg Davis is out, Bryan Harsin and Major Applewhite are in. Will Muschamp is gone to Florida, Manny Diaz takes over from Mississipi State.

What should fans expect to see? On offense, there's not much sense in reading too much into the scheme/playbook today. Applewhite has told the press that things will be extremely vanilla; they won't be showcasing a lot of stuff they intend to do in live games this fall. Rather, today's scrimmage provides an opportunity to get a feel for the basic look of the offense and how individual players look.

Watching the defense should be more interesting. There will be the opportunity to become familiar with Manny Diaz's aggressive fire zone defense. It'll be a neat opportunity to see what kind of athletes we have on that side of the ball, and in the secondary in particular. Especially those who are able to attend in person should get a good look at the kids who are vying to replace the departedAaron Williams,Curtis Brown, and Chykie Brown.

Post your in-game and post-scrimmage thoughts here.

Hook 'em!

QB’s can make great throws that turn into picks because of poor WR play and make bad throws that turn into big plays (like what we saw with White). Looking just at the final stats is what fantasy owners do, and not what coaches should.
