Qatar’s world exposure a boon to hotels

DOHA: The growing competition in the hospitality sector in Qatar buoyed by its booming hotel industry is favourable to the business climate which will be more quality-driven, says a top hotel executive.

“The good thing about Qatar’s hotel industry right now is that there is much more competition in different hotel categories, not only five star but three star and four star hotels, therefore, Qatar will be able to cater to different segments, making hotels more quality driven,” said Fabien Chesnais, General Manager of Mövenpick Hotel Doha.

Just knowing the number of current and future projects and huge investments in the country, one feels fortunate to be present in the country, said Chesnais, who have assumed the top position of the decade-old property just recently.

“We are lucky to be in a country that is always on the map in terms of international events, now a major education and sports destination. Qatar’s development and marketing exposure will definitely benefit all hotels here,” he said adding the line-up of projects in the run-up to World Cup 2022 is quite impressive. Competition also makes hotels more active in terms of providing the best products to the market benefiting the customers more, according to Chesnais, who is perhaps the youngest hotel general manager in the country.

Compared to Europe, he said the Middle Eastern market has come a long way with huge investments in the hotel industry, and the establishment of more quality oriented and trendy properties.

Coping with recent developments going on in the industry, Mövenpick Hotel Doha has undergone a major facelift with all 164 rooms fully renovated.

“Hopefully before Ramadan ends all the rooms would have been finalised. We are a ten-year-old hotel and we are glad to be back with a very competitive product.”

In addition, the hotel known in the corporate segment is also looking forward to a full renovation of its main dining room by year-end. A semi-outdoor outlet, which will be another highlight of the property, is also set for construction.

In terms of location, the hotel is well-positioned, being in the middle of the city and near the airport and other places of interest such as the Corniche and the museums.

“We have always been adequately and well located since the beginning of the property and will always be well located whenever infrastructure development is happening in town, which has been a past, and I’m sure, a future advantage.”

“We are close to the airport and in the middle of the city. We have been seen as a business hotel and we can be perceived as an airport hotel.”

For this Ramadan season the hotel has also geared up with an opulent iftar buffet at the main dining room and suhoor menu for guests. Also, they cater for company iftars with a rich menu at special rates.

“We also have additional outlets coming up next year so definitely next Ramadan will be even better for our guests.”
