Football 2011: 1. Steele Knights - San Antonio Express-News

Life without Malcolm Brown begins for the Knights, after the current Texas RB rushed for 6,600 career yards and guided Steele to the Class 5A Division II state championship.

Steele also lost the rest of its leadership corps in LB Ryan Simmons (Oklahoma State), DT Marquis Anderson (Oklahoma) and S Shane Huhn (UTEP). With players such as QB Tommy Armstrong among nine returning starters back, though, Steele will be a contender to return to Cowboys Stadium.

The strength of the team will be in the secondary, where juniors Erik Huhn and Jordan Sterns are rising on college recruiting stock charts.

Head coach: Mike Jinks, 50-35 career, six seasons; 47-16, five seasons at Steele

Last playoff appearance: 2010, 5A Division II state champion.

Erik Huhn: DB, 5-8, 200, jr. — 83 tackles, second-team all-district.

Evan Lyons: DB, 6-0, 200, sr. — Rushed for 216 yards; will switch to defense.

Eric Maus: DE, 6-4, 232, sr. — 66 tackles, second-team all-district.
