Education roundup: Chevron to award classroom grants, more

The "Chevron Energy for Learning" grants will benefit 6,000 students, according to Chevron. It's made possible through a partnership withDonorsChoose.org, a website where one can donate directly toward projects school employees submit online.

Also, 12 teachers have been dubbed "innovation stars" for going the extra mile toward classroom innovation. They are: German Robledo, Heather Randolph, Barbara Hashim, Laura Fiddler, Robert McMillan, Tim Smith, Denise Padilla, Jackie Eiffert, Brook Webb, Michael Cushine, Ronald Petrelli and Donna Roberts. Recipients of the grants use the money to buy classroom supplies and technology for projects that engage students. Since the program's start in 1999, more than $614,000 has been awarded to nearly 900 classrooms, according to Chevron. The grants are part of Chevron's California Partnership, an initiative to invest in education and economic development throughout the state.
