Eligible admission seekers to universities and other tertiary institutions from Delta State may soon smile as the services of the National Open University is on its way to Sapele courtesy of Sapele-Okpe Community which responded swiftly to the institution’s application to provide it a temporary accommodation as satellite campus in Sapele.

Chairman, Sapele Okpe Community, Mr. Michael Egbejule, disclosed this at his office Okpe Hall, Sapele.

He pointed out that the inception of the Open University in Sapele would open doors of greater enlightenment and educational upliftment for the people especially residents of Sapele that had been deprived of admissions to higher institutions due to the singleness of a university in Delta State.

According to Egbejule, “The Open University’s Campus in Sapele is a major educational breakthrough for the area as it will attract other socio-economic activities, while augmenting the approved state polytechnic at the Sapele Technical College.

“The Open University is sure to fill the vacuum created by few graduates and skilled diploma holders to man strategic scientific, engineering and administrative positions in the existing industries occupied by non-Deltans for future industries and companies being expected in the area.”

Meanwhile, the expectations of the Open University in Sapele has started attracting attention as it has sent positive signals to potential seekers to tertiary institutions in the area that could not access the programme elsewhere.

Others who craved to utilize the opportunity due to strict admission policy of University Matriculation Board (UMB) said that the National Open University in Sapele will go a long way to solving the problem of students seeking admissions to universities across the state as well as empower workers through weekend programmes for higher academic qualifications.

Sapele-Okpe Community’s Chairman, Egbejule, said they responded to the request of the Open University for a temporary accommodation to commence its service in Sapele while they are in search of a suitable permanent site for the institutions satellite campus.

“We are looking forward to their reply as every member of Sapele Okpe community has welcomed the idea,” as he described it as a healthy development towards the overall growth of the town.
