It's the first Saturday of the college football season, and that means fans have a full day of following the best teams in the country.
In the afternoon, Ohio State gets back on the field after a horrific offseason when it hosts Akron, and Auburn begins its title defense minus the services of Heisman winner Cam Newton against Utah State.
Notre Dame and South Florida, led by Skip Holtz, the son of former Irish coach Lou Holtz, face off in South Bend.
But those are all appetizers for the marquee matchup of the evening when No. 3 Oregon and No. 4 LSU meet in Arlington, Texas at 8 p.m. The other game featuring ranked opponents starts at the same time in Atlanta with Georgia tangling with No. 7 Boise State.
Stay tuned as Campus Rivalry will be here to provide live updates on all the action across the country.

8:38 p.m.: As Oregon has its first drive of the game, there's some fireworks in Atlanta. Georgia defensive back Brandon Boykin makes an impact on offense with an 80-yard touchdown run through the Boise State defense. Bulldogs lead 7-0.

7:40 p.m.: Not a great start for No. 12 South Carolina with two fumbles in the first quarter. All tied with East Carolina, which is driving in Gamecocks territory.
7:32 p.m.: The delayed second half started a lot like the first for Notre Dame. With backup quarterback Tommy Rees in, the Irish marched close to the South Florida goal line, but a pass went off the helmet of wide receiver T.J. Jones and was intercepted by the Bulls, who still lead 16-0.
7:28 p.m.: Sacramento State has stunned Oregon State 29-28 after converting a two-point conversion in overtime. A horrible loss for the Beavers and a great win for the Hornets, who gambled on a win and it paid off with Jeff Fleming's conversion pass to Brandyn Reed.

6:41 p.m.: Torin Harris has saved the day for USC. An interception with 53 seconds left looks to have secured a 19-17 defeat of Minnesota. A very flat effort by the Trojans after intermission. Could the close game finally get Lane Kiffin to start kicking extra points.

5:55 p.m.: And Brandon Herron has done it again for the Michigan defense. The linebacker recovered a fumble by Western Michigan quarterback Alex Carder and returned it 30 yards for a score. This was after Herron picked off Carder and had a 97-yard return for a touchdown in the first half. Wolverines ahead 27-10 early in the third quarter.

5:07 p.m.: A merciful end to the first half for Notre Dame. Three turnovers and critical penalties have helped South Florida to a 16-0 lead despite being outgained by the Irish. Not sure if Brian Kelly is considering pulling Dayne Crist, but the senior has not been sharp.
5:00 p.m.: USC goes into intermission with a 19-3 advantage on Minnesota. Matt Barkley has gone to Robert Woods early and often. The sophomore has 11 catches for 114 yards and three scores.

4:28 p.m.: Notre Dame had 1st-and-goal for the second time in the game and came away again with no points as Dayne Crist was intercepted in the back of the end zone on a poorly thrown ball on third down. Despite a huge yardage advantage, the Irish trail South Florida 13-0 because of turnovers and penalties.
4:25 p.m.: In its first game as a member of the Big Ten, Nebraska is up 10-0 on Chattanooga. Taylor Martinez has run for a score and thrown for 45 yards on 3-for-5 passing.

4:13 p.m.: It is going to bad to worse for Notre Dame. South Florida now leads 13-0 late in the first quarter after a short field goal. The lone bright spot was the Irish stopped the Bulls on the goal line to force the kick.

3:49 p.m.: A momentum swing for South Florida. Notre Dame quickly marched to the Bulls goal line, but Jonas Gray fumbled as he was close to the end zone. Kayvon Webster recovered the ball and returned for it 96 yards for score. USF leads 7-0 in South Bend.
3:45 p.m.: Much of the quarterback talk before the game was on Michigan's Denard Robinson. But Western Michigan's Alex Carder led an 15 play drive for 74 yards for a touchdown. The Broncos got in on a 4th-and-goal run from the 1 by Antoin Scriven. They led 7-0.

3:27 p.m.: Auburn has escaped against Utah State 42-38. It wasn't a great showing for 58 minutes with the Tigers defense struggling to stop the Aggies, and some inconsistent play by Barrett Trotter. But they owned the final two minutes and win their first game as defending national champs. Up next is No. 20 Mississippi State.
3:21 p.m.: Michael Dyer bangs in a 1-yard touchdown run and puts Auburn ahead of Utah State 42-38. Amazing comeback from the Tigers, who trailed by 10 with just over two minutes left. Still 30 seconds left for the Aggies.

3:05 p.m.: A huge gamble by Utah State coach Gary Andersen pays off. Instead of kicking a field goal to go up 6, the Aggies ran a fake after a delay of game penalty. A review upheld a catch by D.J. Tialavea for a first down. Two plays later, Robert Turbin found the end zone to put USU ahead of the defending national champs 38-28. Less than four minutes left in Auburn.
