PREP FOOTBALL: Bass scores 5 TDs in H-BC’s victory

HILLS — Dalton Bass scored five touchdowns as the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots downed the Cleveland Clippers 50-7 in a Southern Confederacy conference contest Friday night.

Bass rushed 13 times for 160 yards and scored on runs of two, six, 17 and 39 yards while also catching a touchdown pass of 12 yards from quarterback Jordan Larson.

Larson (8-for-13 passing for 128 yards) also completed touchdown passes to Brady Vaughn (27 yards) and Seth Nuffer (16 yards).

Taylor Leuthold rushed eight times for 42 yards for the Patriots while Jeff Sandbulte caught one pass for 41 yards.

H-BC (3-0) forced six Cleveland turnovers as Larson, Sandbulte and Vaughn each had an interception while Ryan Reit, Taylor Reese and Sandbulte (eight tackles) each recovered a fumble.

Jared Lingen had two sacks while Devin Klarenbeek had one sack for the Patriots, who travel to Alden-Conger Friday.

WESTBROOK — Jake Comnick, Dana Madson and Andrew Merrick combined for 371 rushing yards as the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers toppled Granada-Huntley-East Chain Friday night in a Southern Confederacy conference football game.

Following a scoreless first quarter, Madson (11 carries for 108 yards) opened the scoring for the hosts with a 35-yard touchdown run (two-point conversion good).

A Shane Buchman interception set up W-WG’s next score as Comnick (19 carries for 182 yards) hit paydirt on a 20-yard run (two-point conversion good) for a 16-0 lead.

Comnick then found Aaron Hass with a halfback pass for a 37-yard aerial score as the Chargers took a 22-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Comnick scored on runs of seven and six yards in the third quarter while Merrick (3 carries for 81 yards) completed W-WG’s scoring with 78-yard run in the final frame.

Chargers’ quarterback John Elzenga completed 4-of-8 passes for 58 yards with Nick Lehnhoff catching the four completions.

Defensively, Madson led the way with 12 tackles while Levi Bunting (11 tackles), Derick Ourada (nine tackles) and Lehnhoff (seven tackles) each had a sack.

Merrick recovered a fumble for W-WG (2-1), which travels to Cleveland Friday.

EDGERTON — Displaying a well-balanced offensive attack and a crunching first-half defensive performance, Edgerton/Ellsworth — the state’s No. 1 ranked 9-man football team — rolled to 52-0 lead on visiting Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.

The Bulldogs scored the game’s final 22 points, gaining momentum after returning a recovered fumble 66 yards for a late third-quarter touchdown.

Prior to that, the Flying Dutchmen scored seven touchdowns and tacked on five two-point conversions.

Isaac Heard (nine-of-13, 153 yards passing) passed a pair of touchdown passes to Casey Schilling — 11 yards and 49 yards — in the first quarter and then Derek Voge rushed in for a nine-yard TD.

In the second quarter, E/E crossed the goal three more times as Omar Lopez returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown, Blake Jouwstra rushed 19 yards for six points and Heard capped a drive with a six-yard TD burst.

Devin Hulstein (four carries, 103 yards and two catches, 41 yards) scored the Flying Dutchmen’s final touchdown on an 80-yard run early in the third quarter.

Voge (three carries, 44 yards) ran in for a pair of two-point conversions, while Johnny Menning (eight tackles, three sacks) caught a pair of passes from Heard for two-pointers and Adam LaFollette rushed for one of E/E’s successful conversions.

Lopez (four carries, 41 yards) and Jouwstra (three carries, 27 yards) contributed to the Dutchmen’s ground game, while Schilling (four catches, 96 yards) was E/E’s leading receiver.

Voge (nine tackles) and DC Claar (six tackles, one sack) joined Menning in leading the Flying Dutchmen’s defense, which held the Bulldogs to a mere 34 total yards of offense in the first half.

Hulstein intercepted a pass for E/E (3-0), which hosts Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther in Ellsworth’s Homecoming game Friday.
