Organizers of the Sequim Lavender Festival recently signed on as a major sponsor of the Sequim Open Aire Market.

“This is a perfect fit between the two major groups that represent the farming heritage and entrepreneurial spirit on the peninsula,” said Terry Stolz, president of the Sequim Lavender Growers Association.

Lisa Bridge, market manager, said the lavender growers’ information goes on the market’s brochure, a booth space will be available every week and a listing posted on its website.

“The more we network the stronger we are,” Bridge said about the collaboration.

During the festival, July 20-22, 2012, the groups will partner in some way and Bridge said market members would continue sending visitors to events and farms.

“By promoting each side of the growing fields we create greater awareness of what Sequim has to offer in order for a visitor to arrange a downtown visit, complete a tour of the valley and fill a daylong or weekend schedule,” Stolz said.

Susan Olson, president-elect of the lavender growers, said the group and the market have been in discussions to partner for a while and they are looking for more opportunities to cooperate with other community organizations.

Sequim Open Aire Market continues 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturdays between Second Avenue and Sequim Avenue on Cedar Street through Oct. 22, when reduced hours of 10 a.m.-2 p.m. go into effect through December.

On Sunday, Oct. 23, the market hosts a community silent auction and potluck from 4-6 p.m. at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington, with music by Cort and Kia Armstrong.

The market’s Holiday Show runs 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Guy Cole Convention Center in Carrie Blake Park.
