Gators not planning on using second QB in opener

The Gators starter has been limited in practice for more than a week with a sore lower back.

Brantley and Muschamp dismissed concerns this week, saying the senior would be ready for Saturday's game vs. FAU. Muschamp again said he wasn't anticipating using a second quarterback in the game, even with concerns that might linger about Brantley's back.

"I didn't see nothing wrong with him, so whatever they done I guess it went perfect," said running backChris Rainey.

FreshmanJeff Driskel, a former Oviedo Hagerty standout consensus top QB in the class nationally, was named the No. 2 quarterback during camp. He beat out freshman Jacoby Brissett, one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the class.

Muschamp said even if the Gators take a sizeable lead, he doesn't expect to use another quarterback besides Brantley.

"We will cross that bridge in the game and how it presents itself, but John's our starting quarterback and we've got all the confidence in the world in him," he said.

-- CornerbackJeremy Brown(knee) remains questionable but ran in Tuesday's practice, Muschamp said.

-- Linebacker Dee Finley saw a doctor on Wednesday for a shoulder injury. He's questionable, but Muschamp said he practiced without contact on Tuesday.
