Atlanta Falcons team report: Look for Ryan to be patient vs. Bears

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — QB Matt Ryan had the first big game of his NFL career against the Bears during his rookie season, when he pulled out a victory in the final 11 seconds. Ryan and the Falcons also beat the Bears in 2009.

But Ryan, who’s set to open his fourth season, knows the Bears will be tough at home on Sunday. However, he has a much more potent passing attack to take to Chicago.

In addition to Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez, rookie Julio Jones and Harry Douglas will be at Ryan’s disposable. Jones has been a quick study as a rookie, and Douglas appears fully recovered from knee surgery that slowed him last season.

Look for Ryan to stay patient against the Bears’ cover 2 scheme while the Falcons try to unleash Michael Turner in the running game.

Notes: Center Todd McClure, who underwent right knee surgery on Aug. 29 and has started 144 straight games, was the only player declared out of Sunday’s game. DT Corey Peters (knee) was the only other player who did not practice Wednesday. ... DT Jonathan Babineaux (knee/shoulder) and RT Tyson Clabo (elbow) were limited in practice, but cornerback Dunta Robinson (hamstring), defensive end Lawrence Sidbury (ankle), center Rob Bruggeman (concussion) and wide receiver Roddy White(thigh) all fully participated in practice. … First-year punter Matt Bosher faces a tough first assignment kicking to record-breaking returner Devin Hester. Bosher, who’s attempting to replace Michael Koenen, will try to boot his kickoffs out of the end zone and attempt to use directional punting and good hang time to keep Hester under control.
