Va. Tech report card vs. Appalachian State

Posted to : College Football Sports Virginia Tech Football

David Wilson got off to a great start in his first year as Tech's starting tailback. Wilson had a career-high 16 carries en route to a 162-yard rushing day that fell only 3 yards shy of a career high. His three touchdown runs also were a career best. This has the looks of a huge year for the Danville dynamo.

Logan Thomas didn't disappoint in his opening act. The 6-foot-6, 254-pound Thomas was better than his passing numbers indicated (9-for-19 for 149 yards and two TDs). He had four passes dropped, including a perfectly placed strike into the hands of wideout Marcus Davis that would have been a 70-yard TD.

The Hokies owned these departments. Tech picked off three passes and recovered a fumble that led to its first TD. Justin Myer averaged 70 yards on 11 kickoffs and had five touchbacks. Tony Gregory blocked a punt that Kyle Fuller recovered for a TD and Jayron Hosley had punt returns of 55 and 38 yards.
