Talk about a tail of woe.
Belarusian long-jumper Nastassia Mironchyk-Ivanova missed out on a potential gold medal — and $45,000 in prize money — at the World Track & Field Championships on Sunday when her long pony tail touched the sand behind her when she landed. Since the measurement is taken from the rear mark made, that unfortunate divot sliced about 6 inches off her mark.
Instead, she was credited with a 22-foot, 1 ½-inch leap — 3 ½ inches and three places behind American Brittney Reese's winning mark.
