Hayesville’s Dizzy Dean 10U team traveled to Murphy enduring the heat to bring home the state championship at the end of a three-day tournament battle against Murphy June 27-30.

Hayesville set the tone of the tournament early snatching the win in game one, beating Murphy 17-16. Dalton Long threw the strike out pitch with bases loaded to get Hayesville’s first victory. On day two, Murphy evened the playing field defeating Hayesville 8-4, going into game three, locked 1-1.

With everything on the line, Hayesville pulled together and went to work in the final round of the contest, taking control of the game, shutting Murphy out in the fourth inning for the win, 11-1.

Dwain Cook worked from the mound for Hayesville pitching a no hitter and receiving the game ball at the end of the game for his performance as pitcher. Shawn Kelley backed up Hayesville’s mound working behind the plate all three games keeping everything in front of him.
