Ex-Nebraska quarterback Cody Green to play for TU | Tulsa World

Former Nebraska quarterback Cody Green appears to be headed to the University of Tulsa to play his final two college seasons.

Green, rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com out of high school, communicated his intentions to the TU coaching staff, the Tulsa World learned, but repeated efforts to contact the 6-foot-4, 235-pounder were unsuccessful.

A Houston television station reported Thursday that Green, who made two starts for the Cornhuskers in 2010, had chosen the Golden Hurricane over Baylor. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder previously ruled out Southern California and Auburn.

"I will be at the University of Tulsa starting next week," Green told KRIV.

The Lincoln (Neb.) Journal Star reported that Green confirmed his decision in a phone interview from his home in Dayton, Texas, and plans to report for the start of fall camp Tuesday.

Green appeared in 17 games with the Cornhuskers and backed up Taylor Martinez throughout the 2010 season.

He made winning starts against Iowa State and Colorado when Martinez was injured, and also had significant playing time against Texas A&M and in the second half of the Holiday Bowl against Washington.

As a high school senior, Green accounted for more than 5,000 yards and 62 touchdowns, leading Dayton to a Class 4A runner-up finish.

He was rated the No. 6 dual-threat quarterback nationally by Rivals. Along with Nebraska, he received scholarship offers from Oklahoma State, Stanford and Mississippi State, Houston and Boston College, among others.

Green must sit out the 2011 season and will have two years of remaining eligibility.

Hurricane get tight end: TU received more good news Thursday when Ponca City tight end Tyler Wilson committed to the Hurricane.

The 6-foot-7, 235-pounder caught five touchdown passes as a junior in 2010. He also saw action as a defensive end and anticipates more time at the position in 2011.

Ponca City head coach Rob Fry described Wilson as "a big athletic kid who can catch the ball." Fry also said Wilson has the frame to carry enough additional weight to become a collegiate offensive tackle.

Wilson said he was attracted to TU by the coaching staff, the winning tradition and the academic tradition.

He said he wants to get into the pre-med portion of the school's exercise and sports science program, and hopes to become an orthopedic surgeon.
