LeBron James booed at Ohio State game

What a tremendous confluence of events for Ohio State fans last night.

Their basketball team hammered Duke, 85-63, the perfect backdrop for celebrating Urban Meyer's hiring to resurrect the football program.

And in addition to chanting "overrated" at Mike Krzyzewski's team they also got to boo LeBron James .

Page 2: Humor, columns, commentary, lists and analysis from ESPN.com’s Page 2 - ESPN

Donald Faison, who stars in the TV Land series "The Exes" debuting Wednesday, wanted to learn to play basketball so well that he hired a shooting coach.

No, seriously.

Despite growing up playing streetball in New York and playing basketball on so many TV shows and movies, the 37-year-old Faison wanted to learn the right technique -- and not just how to showboat.

Long past time for Sixers to trade Iguodala

Professional basketball is back – or, rather, it’s about to be back. Some of you are excited about that. Others don’t care. Either way, referees will soon toss basketballs into the air and tall men with over-stuffed wallets will jump after them.

Huzzah. Or something.

Here in Philadelphia, the Sixers have new owners , but the same old questions remain: Will Evan Turner be a significant contributor or just another average NBA player? Will Jrue Holiday improve and take another (jab) step toward becoming an elite point guard? What kind of talent does the team’s new big man, Nikola Vucevic, posses? Should the Sixers consider clearing some cap space by using the amnesty clause on Elton Brand (even though no one expects them to do so)? And, my favorite forever-unresolved issue: Should the Sixers trade Andre Iguodala?

Why Miami Shouldn't Abandon Mike Miller - NYTimes.com

The pressure for a team like the Miami Heat to improve is never-ending, as dominance will only bring calls for more dominance, and victories will be met with demands for more victories. It’s only natural, after all, that much would be expected of a team with such potential. But those expectations fly in the face of one important fact: the avenues of improvement for Miami are closing off rather quickly.

Practice notes: Wilson's emotional speech after loss to Clemson set the tone for remainder of Hokies' season

David Wilson   was emotional. He was fiery, ticked off and even cried a little. He didn't take Virginia Tech's 23-3 loss to Clemson in October well.

He told his teammates as much.

"The team got in there and just like a rage came over me and I was screaming at my team telling them we shouldn’t have lost that game," the running back recalled of the Oct. 1 matchup's aftermath. "'They’re not better than us.' And I told them we weren’t going to lose any more games. And I told them I mean it."

Texans add Delhomme as backup QB

HOUSTON — The Texans added to their quarterback depth Tuesday, reaching a deal with Jake Delhomme.

Delhomme on Tuesday worked out with the team, along with another retired quarterback, Jeff Garcia. Delhomme, 36, will back up rookie T.J. Yates, a fifth-round pick slated to start Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Josh Freeman cut his injured thumb at a gun range

Josh Freeman (notes) needed five stitches on his injured throwing hand after cutting himself while at a gun range on Halloween night.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback played his next game with a wrap around his thumb. Up until Tuesday, the team had only said he hurt it during the team's London game against the Chicago Bears . It wasn't until the Tampa Tribune asked specifically about the stitches that the team and Freeman confirmed the gun mishap.

Montoya stopped 30 shots in a 2-1 win over the Sabres on Tuesday, and the first thing that came to the goalie’s mind was how he didn’t allow Vanek to get the better of him as happened when the two first met in the 2003 Frozen Four semifinal—and in this same building, no less.

“Get out of here, I can remember it like it was yesterday,” said Montoya, who eight years ago was playing for Michigan and gave up the overtime goal to Vanek in a 3-2 loss to Minnesota. “It’s my college hockey nightmare.”

Stan The Fan: Uptight about Flacco staying upright?

The Ravens are an impressive 8-3 right now. For the first time in the John Harbaugh era, the good guys have it all seemingly going their way with regard to hosting one or maybe two playoff games. And, while winning the Vince Lombardi trophy is what its all about, being there is actually more than half the prize.

Randy Edsall

as his football coach.

If Edsall, a Pennsylvania guy with a wholesome reputation and no real Penn State connections, would have stayed at UConn another year, he would have been high on the list to replace Joe Paterno . Despite that nonsense about Maryland being Edsall's "dream job" when he bolted UConn last January, no one would more love to go to Unhappy Valley to begin the job of rebuilding Penn State morally, spiritually with one scoop of vanilla offense and two self-serving scoops of self-righteousness.

New York Giants -- Tom Coughlin in danger of losing his job - ESPN New York

NEW ORLEANS -- Tom Coughlin has no choice but to reconnect with his team this week, and find something, anything, to restore its credibility. If he fails, Coughlin is not going to lose only his cool or his mind.

He is going to lose his job.

Last week, after watching 3-6 Philadelphia commit one felonious assault after another on his lifeless New York Giants, Coughlin went public with his disgust over his team's effort, not merely its execution.

Marketing executive McDonald knew how to spin a story

Whether it was about advertising, Republican politics, football, or going public with his bedroom stories, Dick McDonald had a flair for the dramatic.

"I once watched him present a hospital campaign where, in his setup, he quoted Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi and Vince Lombardi in five minutes," said Gary Mueller, McDonald's former business partner.

Of course, we all know what happened that fateful day in the south shadows of the Angeles National Forest, with the bitter pill of disappointment to come home with.

However, on a positive note, the Packers had miraculously played their way into the playoffs, taking us all on a ride that included stops in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, and finally Dallas before bringing the Vince Lombardi Trophy home.

How do the Chargers salvage the season?

AUTHOR: thegregone | IN: Chargers | COMMENTS: None Yet |

Charger fans, this is what rock bottom looks like.

After losing to Green Bay, there was a lot of reason for optimism. The Chargers had taken the defending Super Bowl champions to their limit and the Packers barely escaped Quaalcomm with a win. A good place to begin the second half win streak would be the next week against the Raiders. The only problem was that game ended in a home loss as well. The home team was outdone by a Raiders squad without Darren McFadden, a quarterback who had been in camp less than two weeks and a rookie that all of a sudden looked like a pro bowler in Denarius Moore. Next game out the Chargers lost to the Bears, led by arch-enemy Jay Cutler. Finally, today’s loss to the Broncos shows how far and fast a team that was the odds-on favorite to win the division can fall. The Chargers went from starting the season 4-1 to 4-7 after a loss to a team led by Tim Tebow. Tim freaking Tebow.

Washington State Budget Woes: Where’s the Beef?

This is fairly off-topic (although we have covered this subject occasionally in the past ), but with all the teeth-gnashing I’ve been reading about lately regarding the latest round of supposedly major cuts required to keep state spending in line with revenues, I thought it might be interesting to look at a couple of charts on the subject.

The Reunion Interview: Malaysia Pargo Minds Her Own Business, But If You Bring Her The Bologna, She’ll Bring Back The Beef

Malaysia Pargo earned a reputation this season on Basketball Wives L.A. for being sweet and non-judgmental despite getting off to a violent start after an altercation with Laura Govan . At the reunion, I spoke to Malaysia and basically fell in love with her immediately. She was soft-spoken but funny, and even more gorgeous in person. We talked a bit about the launch of her Three Beats Jewelry line, which came out on 11/11/11 , which has kept her busy since the end of the show, and then we got into the nitty gritty of the season. Malaysia admits that she regrets fighting with Laura and putting so much trust in Jackie , which is why she spent so much of the season as the odd man out, thinking that no one liked her. Which is why when I asked if she’d ever come back for a season two, her response was a vague “I don’t know.” Read on for more with Malaysia.

Va. Tech notes: Motivation won't be issue for rematch | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com

Virginia Tech rolled into its first match-up against Clemson with a 4-0 record, although the Hokies hadn't played anyone too tough in the first month.

Safety Eddie Whitley said playing Appalachian State, East Carolina, Arkansas State and Marshall was like four exhibition games.

"The first four games wasn't as - I don't know - as powerful, dominant as we would like," he said. "Going into the Clemson game everybody was on a high horse. It was a wake-up call. After that game we were like, this is ACC play.... I guess we got caught off-guard for a little bit."

Old Dominion

's Bobby Wilder asked Delaware counterpart K.C. Keeler for the Blue Hens' daily postseason schedule in their run to the 2010 Football Championship Subdivision title game.

Wilder and the Monarchs might want to borrow Delaware's game plan, and perhaps a defender or two, from the Blue Hens' semifinal.

Delaware bounced Georgia Southern 27-10 a year ago, holding the Eagles to their second-lowest point total all season and lowest against an FCS opponent.

ODU football in mix for another home game . . . if

ODU athletic director Wood Selig says he’s bid nearly twice the NCAA-required minimum to secure a home playoff game for the Monarchs in two weeks – if they get past third-seeded Georgia Southern this weekend.

Should they win, the Monarchs will play the winner of the Appalachian State-Maine game in the third round. And because those teams like ODU are unseeded, the NCAA call basically will come down to where it can cash in the most.

Anniston Star - Embarrassments against top teams bruise Chizik show that Auburn coach needs to make changes

Auburn stands not quite a year out from winning a Bowl Championship Series title, and the Tigers just finished a rebuilding season with a record as good as any realistic fan could expect in preseason.

So, why must Auburn’s head coach make statements like this after the regular-season finale?

“It’s been a lot of ups and downs this season for 12 games, and we’ve had some really good things occur in our 12-game season, and we’ve had some disappointments,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said after the Tigers’ 42-14 loss to rival Alabama on Saturday. “This is certainly one of the huge disappointments.

Auburn coach Gene Chizik started taking stock of the season in the immediate aftermath of the frustrating finale.

The review, predictably, was mixed.

The Tigers (7-5, 4-4 Southeastern Conference) couldn’t pull off another magical Iron Bowl comeback or muster much offense in Saturday’s 42-14 loss to No. 2 Alabama. Now, the defending national champions wait for what will likely be a mid-tier bowl destination.

Texas: No Heisman highlights for Baylor's RG3 when Bears and Longhorns clash | The Republic

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Longhorns can help Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin's Heisman Trophy campaign. They can probably end it, too.

The Longhorns and No. 19 Bears will play Saturday in Waco in Griffin's last game before the trophy is awarded in New York on Dec. 10. A big game against the Big 12's best defense could sway some undecided voters to make him their top choice.

Newton provides glimpse of rookie impact

George Bremer CNHI The Washington Times-Herald Mon Nov 28, 2011, 09:00 AM EST

Indianapolis — It was hard to watch Cam Newton on Sunday and not imagine what a top draft pick like Andrew Luck might look like in a Colts uniform next year.

Newton completed 20 of 27 passes for 280 yards and ran nine times for 53 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown. It was a performance that’s quickly become typical, if not slightly under par, for the reigning Heisman Trophy winner.

With any Luck, state voters won’t be swayed

Stanford senior quarterback Andrew Luck has completed 261-of-373 passes for 3,170 yards and 35 touchdowns with nine interceptions for the Cardinal (11-1) this season.

Texas aims to deny Heisman highlights for Baylor's RG3 | heisman, big, highlights - College Football Capsules - State and Big 12 - Brownsville Herald

"We all played each other, it isn't like we're in different divisions," Stoops said Monday. "You can determine who the champion is if there are two people or three people tied for it. Who beat who."

There is no longer a Big 12 championship game since there are only 10 teams with no divisions and a round-robin schedule. But the annual Bedlam game will be a pseudo title game, with the winner of Saturday night's showdown between third-ranked Oklahoma State (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) and No. 13 Oklahoma (9-2, 6-2) getting the league's automatic BCS berth.

Spielberg is currently working on a film version of the theatrical hit War Horse which is due to be released in the UK on January 13.

The story began as an extraordinary children's book about the brutality of the First World War, seen not through the eyes of a combatant but of a horse.

A quarter of a century later, it was adapted for the stage in a production that took puppetry to a new level, and is still playing to packed houses in London.

FOOTBALL: Ball State waiting for a bowl bid

Lembo watching scores around country that could help Cardinals

Sophomore quarterback Keith Wenning escapes from a Toledo defensive lineman during the game on Friday. With a final record of 6-6, Ball State has an outside shot of reaching a bowl game.

Its offense impotent at inopportune times and its defense unable to slow down Toledo's high-powered offense, Ball State's regular season ended in disappointment Friday afternoon at Scheumann Stadium. The Cardinals lost 45-28 on Senior Day, a surprisingly-promising run at the Mid-American Conference championship ending with back-to-back losses.

After beating the Gators, Florida State is now projected to play in the Chick-fil-A Bowl against Auburn.

Things are starting to become pretty clear, and I only made a few changes from last week, none in the BCS bowls. The ACC lineup shuffled considerably, with Florida State moving up to the Chick-fil-A Bowl, sending Clemson to the Champs Sports Bowl. The Orlando game really wants to match FSU and Notre Dame, but the Atlanta game would have to either pass on 7-5 Auburn for 6-6 Florida or voluntarily take a Clemson team that would have lost three straight games.

College football TV Week 14: Quality, not quantity

November 27, 2011 at 7:41 pm by Pete Dougherty, Staff writer

A majority of college football teams have completed their regular-season schedules. Some of them get to play a “bonus” game, thanks to six conference championship games this season.

The Big 12 no longer has a championship game, but the Oklahoma at Oklahoma State game (8 p.m. Saturday, ABC) is as good as one. The winner wins the title, and the Cowboys have an outside shot at the BCS championship game.

Much of what SPAWAR does behind its fences and walls on the Charleston Naval Weapons Station is secret. That's to be expected of a military information technology nerve center.

Bowl situations surprisingly clear - The Independent Weekly

It's down to one week and counting in college football's regular season, with the conference championship games and a few other scattered contests remaining this weekend. After next Saturday, it's down to Army-Navy on Dec. 10, and one week later the bowls hit with a vengeance.

But for Louisiana's three bowl-eligible teams, the bowl situation is already abundantly clear.

Pettit: Punish the guilty but leave Penn State team out of it | Lubbock Online | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

IN MY VIEW, that it happened to Penn State didn’t make it seem any less damning, only less likely. For years now, the Nitanny Lions have been held up as being all that’s good and pure about college football and no coach — not even Bear Bryant himself — has been so revered as the seemingly indefatigable Joe Paterno.

Lennon has been thwarted in attempts to sign Sol Campbell, Jimmy Bullard, David James and Craig Bellamy since taking charge at Celtic Park. Only recently, Bolo Zenden failed to agree terms after an apparently successful trial period.

Rice's rally falls short in finale against SMU - Houston Chronicle

DALLAS — The Owls failed to get a yard in two critical situations Saturday.

The first cost them a touchdown in the second quarter.

The second cost them a shot at a game-tying field goal in the final minute.

Rice quarterback Nick Fanuzzi's fourth-and-1 pass was deflected at the line of scrimmage with less than 40 seconds remaining in a 27-24 season-ending defeat to SMU on chilly and blustery afternoon at Ford Stadium.

Red Raiders football notebook: Ward stands out

Split end Eric Ward broke the Texas Tech single-game record for pass receptions in the Red Raiders’ loss to Baylor on Saturday. Robert Johnson had 15 in a 2006 game against SMU and Mike Crabtree matched that in 2007 against Texas-El Paso.

Ward caught 16 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

“Eric had a great night,” Tech coach Tommy Tuberville said. “He made some huge plays and kept us in the game.”

Luck Leaves Stanford Stadium a Winner

STANFORD, Calif. - One of a kind. That's how Andrew Luck's appreciative coach described him.

"There's no player in America like Andrew Luck,'' was the biased but hardly inaccurate phrase of David Shaw. "Forget about the stats."

In his last game at Stanford Stadium, Luck's stats were good but not great, maybe not the kind he needed to win that Heisman Trophy. But Saturday night they were the kind he needed to lead the Cardinal over Notre Dame 28-14.

Alabama vs. Auburn in Battle of Top 25

The BCS system has been in question since it started. This may be the most controversial year yet as the top 2 teams could come from the same division of the SEC conference. The fact that they are in the same conference isn’t as hard to swallow as the fact that the Alabama Crimson Tide will neither be a conference of division winner. Many college football experts will argue that their one loss was by just 3 points to the number 1 team in the nation, but that doesn’t ease the pain for teams like Oklahoma St, Virginia Tech and Stanford.

Striking the Pose: Ranking the Last 10 Heisman Trophy Winners

The statistics and awards from that single year are all that are taken into account.  Although it is an individual award a lot of the team's success is factored into the rankings.  The rankings reflect how each player performed when it was crucial and if the player had the "Heisman moment" or just the "it" factor.

Baylor ends Tech bowl streak with Griffin sidelined

ARLINGTON -- Texas Tech's impressive string of bowl-eligible seasons ended Saturday night with a thud. So, too, perhaps, did Robert Griffin III's chances of winning the Heisman Trophy.Griffin was knocked out of the game late in the second quarter on a personal-foul hit by Cornelius Douglas and missed the second half. But even without their main player, No. 18 Baylor still rolled to a 66-42 victory over Texas Tech before 51,615 at Cowboys Stadium. The Bears piled up 617 total yards and snapped a 15-game losing streak to Tech while beating the Red Raiders for the first time since 1995 -- the last season of the Southwest Conference. Baylor also improved to 8-3 on the season, its first eight-win season since finishing the 1991 season at 8-4."The last four weeks have been pretty magical for us," Bears coach Art Briles said. "Tonight it was just a resilient and determined effort.''That definitely rang true for backup quarterback Nick Florence. After Griffin had his bell rung and suffered a slight concussion on the hit by Douglas, Florence took off his redshirt and played in his first game of the season."It's not about me, it's about the team," said Florence, who was 9 of 12 for 151 yards and two touchdowns. "If I'm going to remove (the redshirt), I'll remove it like that."Griffin went out for one play after absorbing the blow from Douglas with 2:19 left in the first half. He returned for one play and darted into the end zone from the Tech 3 to give the Bears a 31-21 lead.It turned to be Griffin's last play, although he was pressing Baylor's medical staff to play in the second half."I was fine," Griffin said. "But any time you have concussion-like symptoms they've got to play it safe."They took my helmet away at the start of the second half, because they knew if I had it I was going to go back in. But life is more important than football, because it's just a game."As far as his Heisman chances disappearing, Griffin had more important things on his mind."I don't play for awards," Griffin said. "To me, (being out of the Heisman race) doesn't matter."The better line is we've won eight games this year, and we're excited about that."Such excitement has been tempered at Tech, which finished the season 5-7 and was winless since upsetting then-No. 2 Oklahoma in Norman on Oct. 22. Tech had five or less wins for only the fourth time since 1986."It pretty much went tonight like it's gone for the rest of the year," Tech coach Tommy Tuberville said. "It's been a long year. We just need to go out now and start recruiting."Tech last failed to play in a bowl game in 1999, former coach Spike Dykes' final season before Tech's streak of 11 consecutive bowl appearances -- 10 under Mike Leach, whom Tuberville replaced in 2010.This season, Tech allowed 66 points to Baylor and Oklahoma State.Baylor's Terrance Ganaway rushed for 247 yards on 42 carries and scored two touchdowns. He became the first player in Baylor history to have multiple 200-yard rushing games in a season.Offensively, the Bears didn't appear to miss a beat when Griffin went down."We have a lot of depth on offense and we have a lot of great players," Ganaway said. "We didn't know if (Griffin) was going to go into the game for the second half, and we just backed Nick up." Dwain Price, 817-390-7760

Stanford and UCLA do, well, different things for the Pac-12

The two latest games of the Pac-12 football weekend provided decidedly different results for the league.

Stanford kept Notre Dame at bay, winning 28-14 to claim its 11th victory of the season. That ought to be enough to get the Cardinal to the Fiesta Bowl, although one bowl official I spoke with awhile back voiced some concern that a 10-2 Michigan team with Denard Robinson could squeeze Stanford out on the basis of fan travel. Michigan is indeed an exciting team with Robinson, but it would be hard to pass on an 11-win team with the consensus No. 1 pick in the NFL draft (and very possibly, the Heisman Trophy winner) in Andrew Luck. Then there were the UCLA Bruins. What can you say about Rick Neuheisel's team, other than 50-0? Fifty to nothing against USC? Funny, but I remember covering the UCLA-USC game back in 2008, because Steve Sarkisian had been named coach at Washington, and this was his swan song at USC. The Bruins acquitted themselves well, losing 28-7, and really took the fight to USC at the Rose Bowl. You had the sense Neuheisel had the Bruins on the right track. And now this.

All its chairman, Keith Vaz, could do when confronted with the elegant periphrases of her opening riposte, was to murmur: "So your answer to my question is 'No'." Asked if the Home Secretary's pilot scheme for border controls which got Brodie Clark into such hot water last week, would mean fewer staff, she offered a number of judicious equivocations about technology and flexible rostering when, as The Independent's Simon Carr pointed out, the answer was surely "yes". An invitation to distance herself from official disparagements of Mr Clark produced the Delphic retort, "He always led from the front."

Sorry Football In The Sunshine State

Written by Philip Rossman-Reich on 26 November 2011.

The last four weeks of the college football season could have been a celebration of the Sunshine State. There's today's Thanksgiving weekend battle between Florida and Florida State, and with Florida State and Miami playing each other later in the year, it set up a classic slate of games for fans in the state.

Corzine, Turkey of the Year

The collapse of MF Global will have many fascinating story lines to uncover over the next several months. Here are at least four...

1) How did regulators like FINRA, which noticed leverage problems with the firm's $6.3 billion bet on European debt over the summer, not act sooner and more decisively to prevent the questionable speculation with other people's money from ending very badly?

Gatorsports.com

The five-star quarterback and the five-star wide receiver first met in the south end zone of The Swamp during a recruiting visit in 2007. There was an instant connection, and the two ended up signing with Florida, where they have forged a strong bond over the past four-and-a-half years.

“No doubt, friends forever,” the wide receiver said earlier this week.

Earlier this week, ESPN announced it planned to keep Meyer in the studio all day instead of joining his broadcast team to do the Ohio State game against Michigan. That appears to have been more his choice than ESPN’s.

Commission talks surplus property

The sale of surplus property in Sharon is almost complete – but not quite.

“It’s a tedious process. It’s not over and it won’t be over tonight,” Weakley County Commission Chairman Jimmy Westbrook said at the November monthly meeting of the Weakley County Commission Monday night.

The property in question, the W.S.W. Co. building and the Rebel Screeners building, received high bids of $30,100 from Will Bolton and $15,001 from Royce Bates respectively, but, according to county attorney Jeff Washburn, the matter is far from over.

Seminoles

GAME NOTES: In their first-ever meeting, the 22nd-ranked Florida State Seminoles and the Harvard Crimson both find themselves undefeated as they enter play in the semifinals of the inaugural Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas this afternoon.

The Seminoles had played their first four games of 2011-12 all at home in the Tucker Center in Tallahassee, so hitting the floor inside the Imperial Arena on Thanksgiving was something new altogether for the team in several respects. But FSU did not disappoint as it posted a 73-53 win over the UMass Minutemen in order to remain unbeaten.

Asomugha’s injury not believed to be serious | ProFootballTalk

Norcaleagles:

First of all, the game against San Diego was during the regular season, not a playoff game.

Secondly, you apparently have not watched many Raiders games or you would feel differently. We were screwed out of a repeat Super Bowl performance while playing against Denver in 1977, when Rob Lytle fumbled the ball as soon as he hit our line. We recovered and ran it back for what would have been the winning TD. The only thing is that the refs never saw him fumble and ruled him down. Add in the Immaculate Deception, the Tuck Bowl and the Tony Siragusa body slam of Rich Gannon that was even flagged although it broke Gannon’s collarbone and Raider fans begin to believe that the NFL refs are against them. Add in a few more strange calls over the years, including the game against San Diego in which a Charger receiver catches the ball, falls to the ground and isn’t touched but gets up and spins the ball. Oakland recovers but it is ruled an illegal forward pass. Or the game against Seattle when our safety intercepted the ball at the 3 yard line but slides into the endzone and is touched by a Seattle player. Not only isn’t the play ruled a touchback, but Seattle gets two points for a safety and the Raiders have to punt the ball back to Seattle

It was a solid show. However, numbers are what tell the entire story. Here are the segment-by-segment breakdowns of each quarter, with my thoughts after each section.

Exploring unconventional managerial hirings of Robin Ventura, Mike Matheny - ESPN Chicago

White Sox general manager Kenny Williams isn't one to play it safe with managerial hires. In 2003, he picked Ozzie Guillen to run the team even after they got into a heated exchange during Guillen's interview. The two men had an oil-and-water dynamic from the start, but those differences didn't prevent them from winning two American League Central titles and a world championship in 2005.

ABC Wins Ratings

With the other networks taking a holiday from their regular prime-time schedules, ABC emerged as No. 1 in all ratings categories on Wednesday thanks to its usual comedy lineup. A new episode of “Modern Family” led the way, with 12.6 million total viewers, followed by “The Middle,” at 9.1 million, according to Nielsen estimates. Elsewhere, a special Wednesday live results episode of “The X Factor” drew 8.5 million total viewers and put Fox in second place for the night in the advertiser-coveted 18-to-49-year-old demographic. CBS was in third place with a slate of repeats and a recap episode of “Survivor: South Pacific.”

Defense doing its part to help Steele make run at back-to-back state titles

The Knights’ defense was expected to slip some after losing four players who signed with FBS schools, but opposing offenses have found the going as tough against Steele this season as they did last year.

Anchored by four returning starters from a team that finished 14-2, the Knights’ defensive unit has been a model of consistency and cohesiveness in helping Steele extend its winning streak to 25 games.

The Quinte West Major Midget Hawks swept a home-and-home series with the Lindsay Muskies on the weekend to run their Lakeshore Hockey League unbeaten streak to 10 games.

The first-place Hawks (12-2-2) clipped the Muskies 4-3 Saturday in Lindsay.

Ryan Klemencic led the Hawks' attack with two goals, including the game winner, while Alex Leclerc added a goal and three assists. Colin Childerhose scored the other goal, with additional helpers to Griffin Rupnow (2), Zach Hiscock (2), and Andy Paul. Patrick Quinn earned the win in net.

RUGBY: Welsh woe for ailing Alcester

ALCESTER slumped to a disappointing defeat against fellow strugglers Coventry Welsh, who recorded their first league win of the season with this victory at Kings Coughton.

With the slope at their back in the first half Alcester started in the ascendancy, but with both sides struggling for much cohesion to their play chances were relatively limited. However, midway through the half and following a good break by wing Jack Sears, centre Matt Hurleston opened the scoring with a try.

2011's Last Solar Eclipse Shows Off for Southern Hemisphere

Photographer and skywatcher Bernt Olsen snapped this view of the partial solar eclipse of June 1-2, 2011 just during the "midnight sun" in Tromso, Norway. The partial solar eclipse was dubbed a "midnight" eclipse as its viewing path crossed the International Date Line across far northern latitudes.

The Best Eclipse Ever (of the moon and of the sun)

I remember my first solar eclipse. I was a kid, and it was the one Carlie Simon sang about, in March 1970.

(The eclipse reference is just past three minutes. Some other time we can argue over whether or not Carlie, singing in this video on Martha's Vineyard, was referring to the March 1970 eclipse or the July 1972 eclipse, but I'm sure it was the former, because that's the one everybody got all excited about.)

Sunspots Provide a Window to the Sun’s Magnetic Field

The earliest known observations of sunspots appear in Chinese records from the fourth century BC, when unusually large spots were probably seen through haze or smoke. A ninth century Benedictine monk observed a large spot for over a week, noting that it moved from day to day. The invention of the telescope in the early 17th century allowed Galileo to correctly deduce the sun’s rotation from sunspot motion.

Survivor recap: Recapping the Recap | Season 23 Episode 11 | EW.com

What kind of loser spends his Thanksgiving eve recapping a recap episode? THIS LOSER! I used to dread the Survivor recap episodes because they used to just show you what you’d already seen, but back in Tocantins the producers actually began putting their hundreds upon hundreds of unused hours of footage to use and started making the recaps a showcase for scenes and storylines originally cut from the season. As a result, there are always things to be learned. So without further ado, here’s what I learned from this season’s “A Closer Look” recap episode. (My other idea was to honor the spirit of the episode by making this entire column deleted outtake paragraphs from my previous recaps, but seeing as how those were the Milwaukee’s Best-fueled ramblings of a madman, this seemed better.)

ABC cooks up comedy feast tonight - The Daily News Online: Guy With A Remote

Thanksgiving comes early to ABC’s comedy lineup tonight. And as you might expect from comedies there will be turkey day mishaps galore.

Three of the night's comedies are joining in the fun. Here’s the rundown from ABC:

"The Middle" - "Thanksgiving III" (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET) - Frankie's parents, Pat (Marsha Mason) and Tag (Jerry Van Dyke), invite the Hecks to spend a few days at their house to celebrate Thanksgiving together. But the festivities fall apart quickly when Frankie's sister, Janet (Molly Shannon), and her family also join in. Soon the siblings are at each other's throats over their widely differing parenting techniques. "Suburgatory" - "Thanksgiving" (8:30-9:00 p.m., ET) - Depressed that she has to spend Thanksgiving in the suburbs, Tessa convinces Dallas to take her to the city for a girls' day out. During their fun day, they run across George making out with a woman while he was supposed to be "working." Angry with George for lying to her, Tessa confronts him during the Royces' Thanksgiving dinner. Meanwhile Lisa refuses to wear a special dress Sheila picked out for her, so Sheila decides to literally turn up the heat.   "Modern Family" - "Punkin Chunkin" (9:00-9:31 p.m., ET) - When an old neighborhood kid returns to town as a hugely successful internet billionaire (Josh Gad, "Book of Mormon," as Kenneth), it gets Phil thinking of what might have been. Jay feels Manny could use a little dose of constructive criticism, and Cameron is offended when Mitchell questions the authenticity of his colorful childhood stories. It all comes to a head at Thanksgiving with the family is divided between the "Dreamers" and the "Pritchetts" -- and nothing settles the score like a punkin chunkin challenge.

The

Saints have been fortunate on the injury front, and while the team has struggled at times this season, New Orleans has no need to burn a doctor in effigy. Offensive line depth could be an issue with tackle Charles Brown on IR. Atlanta is finally getting its act together after a sluggish start to the season. Offensive line depth is a concern for the Falcons too. Nagging injuries have spoiled the debut of rookie wide receiver Julio Jones. The Falcons will trade reps from Jones now if they can have him healthy down the stretch, including a week 16 matchup against the Saints.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Sitting on the couch playing with my newly downloaded A Charlie Brown Christmas iPad app last Friday evening, I was struck by the difference between what kids watch these days and what we watched when we were younger.

At the other end of said couch, my wife had our 3-year-old on her lap, and they were watching a trailer for Happy Feet Two , in which a bunch of squeaky-voiced penguin chicks do a dance routine to a parody medley of LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” and Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back” (redone as “Fluffy Back.” You know: for kids!).

CHARGERS: Scouting report vs. Denver Broncos

Thanksgiving

plate? Must look like Google Earth photos of Zurich. Over here, mountains of potatoes; over there, fast-moving rivers of gravy bordered by big zeppelins of bread. All I can say is watch your cheesehead today. Berman's got a fork.

Football crazed as we all are, is it no coincidence that the centerpiece of today's feast is shaped like a down lineman in a four-point stance? Look at that giant bird, down on its haunches, awaiting the snap. The Steelers ' Casey "Big Snack" Hampton comes to mind, and certainly the Packers ' B.J. "The Freezer" Raji. Or Jets Coach Rex Ryan reaching down for an untied shoelace. Ooooooph! Grrrrrunt! Medic!

NFL football on Thursday is a turkey of an idea

Today's appetizing parade of NFL games begins with breakfast (Packers-Lions at 9:30 a.m.), carries through lunch (Dolphins-Cowboys at 1:15 p.m.) and culminates with a Thanksgiving dinner feast (49ers-Ravens at 5:20 p.m.).

That's great entertainment for fans, but if league officials truly cared about player safety - and they clearly don't - they would not schedule any games on Thursdays.

Eagles' O-line is Week 11's Top Protector

A lot of people looked at the Eagles' 17-10 win over the Giants and credited the defense -- and rightly so -- but the offense played pretty well. Vince Young led the Birds on a game-winning marathon of a drive but it was the offensive line that gave him plenty of time.

For the second time this season, the Eagles offensive line was selected as the Top Protectors for Week 11 by Hall of Fame coach John Madden. The Eagles were also selected in Week 8. They are the only team to win the honor twice this season.Madden selects the top offensive line each week of the NFL season. The NFL's best offensive line by the end of the season will be announced at Super Bowl XLVI and will receive the third annual Madden Protectors Award.

The New York Week That Was (Thanksgiving Edition)

Ok, this week isn't really over, as it's only Wednesday, but with Thanksgiving one day away, this is kind of like the end of the week with Wednesday sort of resembling Friday, so here's an abbreviated edition of the New York Week That Was. And who knows what shape I'll wake up in on Friday, as I may have my head stuck inside a turkey carcass with no way out, or there's a very good chance that I'll be trapped in a pie and beer coma, so Wednesday it is. Just to make things more confusing, things are so askew that we don't even have aNew York Jetsgame to talk about since they played this week's game last week.

'Cake Boss' video: a new feast for Thanksgiving - National TV | Examiner.com

There is not much in the way of new entertainment set to air on Thanksgiving night -- so with that in mind, you have to be a little bit excited that "Cake Boss" is going to be airing some sort of special themed all around a feast.

In a new video from the episode (which you can see to the left), Buddy gets set to engage in what is going to be an intense cooking competition involving both him and his mother-in-law. While we haven't seen much of Buddy's contraption yet, his wife Lisa's mom is preparing something that John Madden would certainly approve of -- a turducken. What not to like here about turkey, duck, and chicken stuffen together?

Merry Xmas from Kim’s fake wedding!

Santa hasn’t actually worked since 1959.) it’s time to break out everyone’s favorite almost tolerated holiday obligation: Christmas cards! And like all irritating newlyweds, Kim Kardashian decided to use a picture of her wedding as the card this year, except whoops! That was a sham cash-grab that ended after only two months.
