Cougars | Paul Wulff likely out as Cougars coach | Seattle Times Newspaper

Paul Wulff has likely coached his last football game at Washington State.

Sources close to the situation say Wulff, whose Cougars lost 38-21 to Washington on Saturday at CenturyLink Field, will be dismissed after a meeting with athletic director Bill Moos, barring a last-minute change of direction by Moos. It could happen as early as Sunday, possibly Monday.

Jay Paterno: College Football Is … The USC Song Girls, Ralphie, The Game

The regular season-ending game between Navy and Army is one of college football's greatest traditions. Photo by Armytimes.com.

In 1966, following a 51-0 loss to Notre Dame, USC coach John McKay said, “I told my team it doesn’t matter. There are 750 million people in China who don’t even know this game was played.”

Updated ticket sales numbers

I've gotten a lot of requests for updated numbers on ticket sales for the three remaining games at Husky Stadium, so here they are straight from the UW Athletic Department this morning:

As should be obvious, there are plenty of seats available for each game, including the contest against the Ducks, which will be the last played in Husky Stadium before it undergoes a renovation and will include a tribute to the 1991 National Title team.

The Great Crimson Toes from Spokane

JASON HANSON, the ageless Detroit Lions star, is the most famous Cougar kicker to come out of Spokane, but he is by no means the Lilac City's only contribution to ol' Wazzu's leg legacy. Unofficially speaking, the record suggests that no place in these United States has produced more outstanding kickers for the Cougs than Spokane.

Huskies | How far can Alameda Ta'amu carry Huskies defense in 2011? | Seattle Times Newspaper

First, Alameda Ta'amu had to figure out how to carry the weight of added responsibility.

Once he did, the unwanted pounds on his body began to drip off.

And feeling more grounded off the field, but lighter on it, the University of Washington defensive tackle began last year to fulfill the vast potential everyone always envisioned.

Cougar Nation loses a dear friend in JoRob

THE COUGAR family recently lost a friend when Joanne Robertson, wife of legendary Washington State play-by-play announcer Bob Robertson, passed away. “She was as loyal a Cougar as Cougars come,” Bob said this week. The two would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on Oct. 22 when the Cougars play Oregon State at Qwest Field.

The Daily Evergreen

The No. 15 WSU women’s rowing team held their only home regatta this season, hosting in-conference and in-state rival the No. 7 Washington Huskies at Wawaiwai Landing on the Snake River Saturday.

The Cougs fell to Washington in all six races of the day, and the Huskies regained possession of the coveted Apple Cup Trophy.

PETE HARDING CLAIMS THRID APPLE CUP CHAMPION TITLE

Canada’s Korbin Thomas started in 11th for Sunday’s running of the 46th Annual Apple Cup and quickly moved towards the winners circle in the famed event pulling off a last lap victory passing two-time winner Pete Harding for the title. A post race inspection disqualified Korbin Thomas moving Pete Harding into first place.

Day after: Hot finish worth suffering through slow start

Posted By Todd Milles on December 31, 2010 at 4:53 pm Share this

It was about the only thing about Washington football's Holiday Bowl night that wasn't in synchronicity.

Coach Steve Sarkisian shared the post-game podium with quarterback Jake Locker, running back Chris Polk and linebacker Mason Foster - the stars of the Huskies' 19-7 shocker over 17th-ranked Nebraska.

Top 10 Sports Stories of the Year: Locker's season starts with hype, ends with Holiday

From the moment Jake Locker signed his national letter of intent to play college football at the University of Washington, the wheels of the hype machine were set in motion.

By the start of the 2010 season that machine had reached ludicrous speeds with Locker being picked as a preseason favorite to contend for the Heisman Trophy as the best player in college football and tabbed by some as the likely first pick in 2011 National Football League Draft.

Huskies Stun Huskers 19-7 - Building The Dam

Jake Locker came back for another year where he had never had a winning season, and still didn't have one after winning the Apple Cup. But on the last night of his career, he finally is on a "winning" team. So is Mason Foster, who went out with yet another in a long, long series of double digit night of tackles.

Is Nick Holt on the hot seat?

The last time Nick Holt 's defense faced the Nebraska Cornhuskers they gave up the most points to an opponent in Husky Stadium history in a 56-21 loss on Sept. 18. With the rematch set for tonight's Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl , the Husky defense must show noticeable improvement if they want to keep their second year defensive coordinator off the hot seat.

A chance to get in on AFL | Northern Rivers Sport | Local Sports in Northern Rivers | Northern Star

Summerland AFL takes on Darling Downs at Fripp Oval, Ballina, in May. With a number of new ventures, there might soon be far more opportunities to represent the region in Australian football.

AS FAR as ambitions go, none could be more adventurous, which is why a plan to field a Northern Rivers team in the premier Queensland AFL competition will be more long-term rather than ‘long-shot’.
