Aust stocks expected to open higher

The Australian sharemarket is expected to open slightly higher, as investors look for value in local stocks following more than a week of losses.

On the ASX 24, the December share price index futures contract is pointing to a five point gain, or 0.12 per cent, to 4008 points.

Commsec economist Craig James says most signs are pointing to a buying opportunity after US markets fell, European markets rose and base metal prices finished the week mixed.

At the close on Friday, the ASX200 index was down 59.9 points, or 1.48 per cent, at 3,984.3, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 57.7 points, or 1.40 per cent, at 4,057.6.
