Natalie Gouge is the 2012 Principal of the Year for McDowell County.
Natalie Gouge, principal of West Marion Elementary, has been selected as the 2012 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year for McDowell County Schools in a program sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and Wells Fargo.
Gouge now moves on to compete with other local award recipients from the Western Region of the state. After the state selection process is completed, one principal will be selected as the 2012 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year.
Gouge graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education K-6 and a master's degree in reading education K-12 and received her master's add-on in school administration at Western Carolina University. She has been in education for 20 years.
She first began her educational career as a part-time classroom teacher at East McDowell Junior High while working on her master’s degree. After finishing her masters degree in reading education K-12, she accepted a full-time teaching position at Old Fort Elementary.
In August 2004, she became one of the teacher support coordinators at the Central Office. From that position, she moved on to assistant principal at West Marion and then to her current position, principal of West Marion Elementary. This is her fourth year as principal.
“I feel very fortunate and blessed to be the principal of West Marion Elementary,” Gouge said
This is the 29th year Wells Fargo has sponsored the financial awards.
LEA Principals of the Year receive a cash reward.
The regional Wells Fargo Principals of the Year receive a cash reward for their school and a cash reward for personal use. The 2012 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year will receive $3,000 for his or her school and $3,000 for his or her personal use.
Regional award recipients will be selected by February 2012 and the 2012 State Wells Fargo Principal of the Year will be announced in the spring of 2012 at a state event in Raleigh.
The 2011 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year is Rob Jackson, principal of Cuthbertson High School in Union County.
