College football TV Week 14: Quality, not quantity

November 27, 2011 at 7:41 pm by Pete Dougherty, Staff writer

A majority of college football teams have completed their regular-season schedules. Some of them get to play a “bonus” game, thanks to six conference championship games this season.

The Big 12 no longer has a championship game, but the Oklahoma at Oklahoma State game (8 p.m. Saturday, ABC) is as good as one. The winner wins the title, and the Cowboys have an outside shot at the BCS championship game.

In all, 10 of the 15 games available for viewing have at least one ranked team (five have two ranked teams).

The only games after this weekend are next week’s Army-Navy clash and, of course, the bowls.

The schedule (numbers in boldface indicate this week’s Associated Press rankings):

7:00: MAC Championship Game (Detroit): Northern Illinois vs. Ohio U., ESPN2

8:00: Pac-12 Championship Game: UCLA at 8 -Oregon, Fox

12:00: Conference USA Championship Game: 24 -Southern Mississippi at 7 -Houston, ESPN2

2:30: Nevada-Las Vegas at 18 -Texas Christian, Versus

4:00: SEC Championship Game (Atlanta): 1 -LSU vs. 12 -Georgia, CBS

8:00: Fresno State at San Diego State, CBS Sports Network

8:00: ACC Championship Game (Charlotte): 21 -Clemson vs. 5 -Virginia Tech, ESPN

8:00: Big Ten Championship Game (Indianapolis): 11 -Michigan State vs. 15 -Wisconsin, Fox
