With the other networks taking a holiday from their regular prime-time schedules, ABC emerged as No. 1 in all ratings categories on Wednesday thanks to its usual comedy lineup. A new episode of “Modern Family” led the way, with 12.6 million total viewers, followed by “The Middle,” at 9.1 million, according to Nielsen estimates. Elsewhere, a special Wednesday live results episode of “The X Factor” drew 8.5 million total viewers and put Fox in second place for the night in the advertiser-coveted 18-to-49-year-old demographic. CBS was in third place with a slate of repeats and a recap episode of “Survivor: South Pacific.”
