RUGBY: Welsh woe for ailing Alcester

ALCESTER slumped to a disappointing defeat against fellow strugglers Coventry Welsh, who recorded their first league win of the season with this victory at Kings Coughton.

With the slope at their back in the first half Alcester started in the ascendancy, but with both sides struggling for much cohesion to their play chances were relatively limited. However, midway through the half and following a good break by wing Jack Sears, centre Matt Hurleston opened the scoring with a try.

Unfortunately, Alcester failed to capitalise on this advantage and they were dealt a big blow when talismanic stand-in skipper Scott Carmichael had to leave the field with a hand injury, which forced a reshuffle in the home backs.

Face to Face - The Alcester (amber) and Coventry Welsh packs prepare to scrum down during Saturday's game.
