NFL Labor Settlement Could Come by Days End?

The NFL and NFLPA * agreed in principle to a rookie wage scale late yesterday afternoon, and then rumblings began early this morning that the two sides had essentially come to terms on most of the economic issues facing them.

NFL outside labor counsel Bob Batterman (LC), NFL commissioner Roger Goodell (RC), Peter Ruocco, NFL senior vice president for Labor Relations, (R), and others arrive for labor negotiations between NFL players and owners with federal mediation in Washington on March 4, 2011. The current collective bargaining agreement was extended to midnight tonight and talks may lead to further extension. UPI/Roger L. Wollenberg.

Now, Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal is reporting that a full labor settlement could get done by days end…all but ending the NFL Lockout.

"Now hearing that global settlement is a possibility today," Mullen tweeted .

This is far from a guarantee, but it's also further along than the two sides have been in quite some time…if ever.

"Hearing still some things to work out, but good momentum being made today, which makes a settlement possible," she added via Twitter .

"Sides will be breaking without a 'formal agreement,' but are in a good place," Mullen tweeted .
