But when it comes to the 2016 team, the new generation, one of the rising stars, along with Montgomery, is likely Chicago rookie point guard Courtney Vandersloot, the third overall pick from Gonzaga.
Vandersloot, a protégé of NBA Hall of Fame guard John Stockton, has already caught the eye of USA Basketball and was worked out with the team in Las Vegas this spring.
"I didn't anticipate the chance to tryout and it came out of nowhere," Vandersloot said. "I just happened to see Coach Auriemma at the Final Four [in Indianapolis] and he personally invited me [to the tryout].
"It was an honor to just have the chance to work with players like that, but what it showed me is that I have a lot of work to do. I'm still young and have the time to work on things to help me get where I want to be."
Vandersloot headed into the weekend averaging 5.4 assists for the Sky. She will be playing in Turkey this winter and will certainly remain on Auriemma's radar, even though it's unlikely she could make the 2012 team.
"I had heard to so much about Coach Auriemma, but didn't know him very well," Vandersloot said. "But he is so well respected and really knows his stuff. You could tell when he was on the floor. Whenever he said anything, everybody was listening to him."
