SANFORD — Cancer does not define a person. However, cancer can give people opportunities to define themselves in ways they never knew they could. Women face many challenges in cancer treatment as certain aspects of their body or function that once identified their femininity is challenged. Changes such as hair loss, fatigue, weight gain or loss among others can make women feel uncomfortable in their own skin. A new cancer support group will be starting at the Cancer Care Center of York County (CCCYC) in Sanford this year that will address these needs. The support group will help women relearn what it means to be female by exploring all aspects of femininity and how patients can incorporate their own strengths from within to identity themselves. Most importantly, the group will serve as a safe and supportive network for women to share and open up about their own personal struggles with their body image and identity through cancer. If you are interested in participating in this support group, please contact CCCYC's patient advocate Danielle at 207-459-1626.

If you would like to see your support group or program or service placed here, please send the information to Editor Shawn Sullivan at ssullivan@fosters.com.
