Alabama Crimson Tide Headline 2011 SEC Championship Odds

Without question, there has been one conference above the rest over the course of the last half-decade which has dominated the college football landscape. The evidence is there, as the Southeastern Conference has captured the last five BCS National Championships, and look for a sixth for the upcoming 2011 season.

At the top of the list coming into the year, there are several teams in the conference with which oddsmakers have set in the top-10 in terms of BCS Championship Futures odds at Bodog Sportsbook.

At the forefront of that list are the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Crimson Tide are second behind only the Oklahoma Sooners on BCS Championship betting lines, and are atop the SEC Championship Odds at Bodog Sportsbook. Going off at 9/5, Alabama is the favorite to come out of the SEC, which might give them an inside track to the Super Dome in New Orleans on Jan.9, site of the national championship game.

Of course, Alabama will have to navigate their way through their conference schedule, which includes three national champions in the last four seasons in the Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers and Florida Gators.

Florida and LSU come in the top-10 on National Championship betting lines, but are a bit behind Alabama in terms of SEC betting lines. The Gators come in at 9/2 on Bodog Sportsbook, while LSU sits at 5/1 along with the Georgia Bulldogs out of the East division.

For any of these teams to win the conference though, they will first have to get past their division.

In the West, Alabama is a 10/11 favorite to capture the championship and earn a berth to Atlanta in the SEC title game. They lead LSU, who has been set at 5/2, and Arkansas, going off at 6/1.

On the other side of the conference in the East, It’s Florida that has the slight edge by oddsmakers over Georgia, going off at 7/4. The Bulldogs have been installed with odds at 9/5.

While both Florida and Georgia have been at or near the top of the SEC over the last decade, it was the South Carolina Gamecocks that snuck in and won their first division championship last season. The Gamecocks aren’t far behind Florida or Georgia on the Eastern division betting odds, set at 5/2.

And while some believe that the SEC’s run at the top might come to an end this season, the 12 teams that make up the conference will likely have something to say about who plays in the national championship by the end of the season.
